I want to add that saying something along the lines of it evolved to blend in and hide is not an acceptable answer. It's one thing if a species evolves because of a constant parasite attack, etc, but for an evolution to be due to blending in and hiding so it's not eaten, that denotes intelligence. What in their body figured out that if they don't blend in they may be eaten? What in their body determined what blending in actually is? Those things are not a response to something on their body like constant sunlight, parasites, food changes, weather changes, etc. How would the body even know it was at risk of predators and a way to blend in?

One aspect of evolution that does not make sense.....
by EndofMysteries inthe part that does make sense are how bodies adapt over time to surroundings and use.
for example because of eating habits changing, our jaws have become smaller and we don't need wisdom teeth.
or the effect of the sun on our skin, etc.

But how on Earth can defense mechanisms be evolved in animals? '
For example, how did the ability to camouflage get onto chameleons? What made their DNA or whereever it came from say, "My species is being eaten up by predators, so I better evolve the ability to camouflage." If a chemeleon is eaten up, it can't pass anything that would trigger an evolution. How did an insect at one point turn into the leaf insect? At some point it decided that to look like a leaf would protect it?
Those things are not a response to their body from the surroundings, it's to avoid just vanishing altogether.
Let's say that car accidents cause 50% of human deaths by their heads being crushed in the accident. Those who died can't pass anything down, so will somehow humans magically evolve into super hard shell heads to avoid their heads being crushed from an accident?
This is different then lets say if many people kept loosing a finger and over time the ability to regrow the finger came, because there would be some information on the body passed down. But those that are dead are dead and if the death is due to a one time thing, it doesn't make sense those abilities could come from evolution.

Athiests - If there is no God, is planet Earth itself a living entity?
by EndofMysteries ininside our own bodies there lives an entire world of living things.
inside just a single cell there exists an entire world as well.
to me, the general description of evolution just does not make sense if you factor in everything combined.

and everything being in a race to survive still results in the survival of the fittest. viruses and parasites kill off weaker ones or reduce populations. predatory animals catch the sick and weak the easiest.
Aside from that, trees for example, we take in oxygen and give off carbon, they take in carbon and give off oxygen. If water always remained in liquid state and never water the earth, if it was always in a solid state, the same thing.

If the above is the case, then humans have become a virus.

Inside our own bodies there lives an entire world of living things. Inside just a single cell there exists an entire world as well.
To me, the general description of evolution just does not make sense if you factor in everything combined. One life form adapts to its surroundings.
On the Earth, everything has a purpose to promote healthy life and destroy unhealthy life. If you look at how bacteria for digestion, ants cleaning up dead insects and rotton fruits, birds canvasing the skies to clean up dead animals, worms to make soil better, trees to make oxygen and eat carbon, animals to breath oxygen and release carbon, if you don't believe a God created it all, then it atleast appears that such as within our own bodies there exists a world of life to keep us alive, that perhaps the planet or something else is a life and that's how there is such a diversity of life on this planet with a purpose.
Even if you don't believe in God, the current explanations for life on Earth are just as hard and don't answer all questions.

Chat with Elder, how would you reply?
by awakening inhad a sit down chat with an elder who is aware of my doubts.
we were on the subject of new light, i was saying that if the org changes a teaching then the old teaching was wrong and cannot qualify as truth at the time it was taught, so where did the falsehood come from?.
his response was the gb is imperfect!!

According to the GB, the story of Moses would go something like this......
And Moses spake to the son of Israel and said, "We must henceforth go into the wilderness and leave Egypt and the Lord will provide for us." Then all of Israel rejoiced and the Lord did grin and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and finally Israel quested into the wilderness. The people were dying of starvation. And Moses spake, "Sons of Israel, in your eagerness to be redeemed, you falsely assummed that if you went into the wilderness, the Lord would provide for you, and I just an imperfect man went along with it." Then the sons of Korah stood up, "Obviously Moses was not talking to the Lord, and he is also not humble enough to admit it was his mistake but he is blaming all of you, let us return to Egypt before we all die of this madness." And the Lord suddenly appeared and smited the sons of Korah and everyone else because they dare question the authority of the faithful and discreet slave Moses who was spirited directed even though he was imperfect and giving false information.

What commands did Moses ever give that were wrong? He was imperfect and messed up but he never told the nation God said something then later said, opps he didn't tell me that, I am just imperfect.

Even though the WT teaches otherwise, the bible teaches some are predestined. Judas was predestined to do that.
Romans the entire chapter of 9 goes into much depth about this subject in vs 10-13 it brings out how before Jacob and Esau were born it was foretold/predestined what would happen to them, in vs 16-18 how Pharoh was to be obstinate so that God may show his power, vs 19 to 25 how God is the potter and how he has the right to make vessels(people) for honorable use and some for dishonorable use.

A question about the accuracy of dating the Earth and fossils.....
by EndofMysteries ini have done some research into radiometric and carbon dating but i have been unable to find an answer or explanation to my challenge on that.
i wonder if anybody here can point me in the right direction or possibly answer it.. the first is that it seems most if not all of these dating methods rely on measuring decay.
unless i am mistaken, decay is not equal everywhere.

cofty - as I said in my first post " I would think these questions have already been addressed but can't find the answers." Thanks for that article, i'm checking it out.
jgnat - high school level education in some parts of the USA means a teacher tells you to read a chapter in a book then take a test. The science courses never do any lab work nor do they really teach. Take that and + 10/15 years, you won't remember a thing.
Anyway I'm back in college now, in the fall I'll probably be fullfilling the GE requirement for physical science, I may or may not chose physics for that.
