You would not debate a topic that you were not an expert about? That's foolish?

Here is a practical answer for why that is NOT foolish.

JW's claim to know the truth, should a person have to study and learn all there is to know about JW's before they can debate and challenge their beliefs?

Does it take understanding the entire doctrine of the faithful and discreet slave for a non JW to just ask questions and probe and poke holes into the logic of it without them ever becoming indoctrinated?

Infact if anything you should be encouraging such debates. All people have priorities and a limited amount of time. With work, life, the billions of books on anything imaginable to research, thousands of different religions and beliefs, etc. Perhaps with such debates, some people never had any intention of reading books on the subject because they dismissed it or it was low priority, but either lurking or those involved in such debates force them to do more research and maybe grab a book and bump it up the list in their priorities.

You just claim I am bad at debate, and that my question was fully answered on page 1, implying that there should have been nothing further discussed, further implying that you have no understanding of what the word debate even means. Might I suggest you read a 'basic' book about debate, perhaps starting with the Dictionary.

I just found out the special release this year!!!!(I'm trolling)

A web browser called, "WatchtowerShield." It will be a free download from jw.org. All members will be instructed to install this web browser and delete internet explorer, google chrome, firefox, etc.

This browser will offer the Faithful and Discreet Slaves protection while using the internet. Just like the Kingdomhall is a protection, this browswer will block the ability to view apostate websites, search terms, forums, comments, etc. It will also block porn, etc.

Because the flesh is weak and the elders and the faithful slave want to be proactive in helping people, it will also report to them what search terms are used, so they can contact them early on if they appear to be doing indepdent thinking or attempting to access porn.

Cofty's post, " The amount of effort that has been made in recent years to explain evolution in simple terms is massive. " proves what I just said. It seems he did not at all think that debate was also part of this nor all the other posts. It's impossible to debate if both sides agree. In debates, sometimes both sides agree but one side has to switch places to do the debate.

I guess to Cofty, evolution is clear, bright as sunshine fact, as well as the big bang theory, etc, and that if anybody is shown it, they'll just accept it, that there is no need/reason/etc to debate it.

Maybe Simon should make a new category, "debate" so any questions asked there, people like Cofty won't get upset when answers are challenged and not accepted, etc.

Thanks for your input Apog. If you notice this thread has had about 2,300 views, and I promise those who have posted account for a tiny part of that.

It seems that maybe some who reply to my posts don't understand the difference between acceptance and taking in answers vs debate.

If I ask a question, sometimes I am only looking for answers and I'll probably accept the explanation with no challenge. Sometimes I want to debate so if I ask a question, I am not responding in a way where I am accepting the information and believing it, but I am looking for loopholes.

I do not get upset with debate but it seems many do get upset and frustrated. They need to understand the positive aspects of it.

1. checks and balances - each side wants to believe it is correct and each side is predisposed to more easily agree and accept. The opposing side may be throwing questions looking for loopholes, etc.

2. In the end, it doesn't matter if either side changed their viewpoints, the exchange resulted in viewers/lurkers learning something, those in the actual debate whether they admit or not may have their standpoint weakened or solidified more.

Science itself doesn't advance without opposition. I'd be curious how many advancements in science may have been accidentally learned due to challenges to prove / back up something.

I think from now on I'll put a disclosure for any question I put on a thread if I intend to debate and find any little loophole in the answers or if I merely am looking for the most up to date belief / knowledge on a subject.

In the case of this specific thread, it was a combination of both. I couldn't find a good answer about chameleons ability to camouflage in relation to evolution and when asking I was also going to look for any loopholes.

Pretty soon the 'spiritual' ones will be sticking their noses up real high and those who take a real vacation will be viewed as spiritually weak, etc.

Because if anybody is having even a tiny bit of enjoyment or relaxation, it's a sin and they should be doing more. And being casually late is dishorable to God.

O yea I can just see how eager, after working 40 possibly 60 hours a week for 50 or 51 weeks washing windows because higher education is a tool of Satan, that they finally can have 1 week or so to take a long relaxing vacation or travel somewhere, but they should instead auxiliary pioneer that week and donate the vacation money to the worldwide work.

Right after this part is, "Cultivate the Habit of Being Punctual." where they talk about how JW's should be right on time for EVERYTHING in their lives, meetings, works, anything, and how that brings honor to the image of the Governing Body and how true christians are punctual for all things and if you have a problem you should pray to be more punctual.

I wonder if anybody kills themself after that meeting.

Excuse me while I throw up.

Par 2 instructing to be punctual everywhere because that brings honor to Jehovah the governing body. It's so obvious from the bible that God's true people are punctual, so those who are late are not true christians and they bring dishonor to the governing body. I hear it all the time in the streets, "joe smith over there is not 'on the dot' on time, he's definitely not a godly person!". I heard several people comment on how to identify the true religion, they all mentioned that looking for a punctual religion is most definitely the true religion.

I love in par 4 how they are still going on about being punctual and how you should pray for help if you have a hard time being a punctual person! Being casually late is a satanic trait obviously.

On page 3, not par 3, in the question box, I love this statement about what parents have to do to their children...."They must be convinced that Jehovah's Witnesses have the truth." Obviously if it takes a full dissection of the teachings, origins, and reading the bible in context to convince them then they'll just have to take their word for it or it will be showing a rebellious spirit and independent thinking.

Terry - True if one loaf of bread was made it would be consumed, or taken one time, but the WT non stop reteaches and distributes the bread(new light). Each time the teaching is discussed, it's the same bread that was made previously. Let's say a baker makes a dozen loaves, you eat one loaf and it's fresh, but as time goes on it becomes stale and moldly so eating more of the bread from the original set will be moldy.

With the GB that's why they make stupid changes often in addition to the key doctrines when proved to be wrong.

What is hysterical too is all the JW comments when it was first posted saying it was a bad joke and apostates and how disgusting it was. I would have loved to see their faces when they found out it wasn't fake and it was from their faithless and reckless master.
