Said nobody who had read any history at all ever!
Right back at you! Tell me more about the rise of the Roman empire in Europe and what it accomplished and how.
it just seems to me religion in general primarily makes truly bad people worse, not genuinly good people better; and in many cases has even made good people do bad things in the name of their religion.
just curious, a personal poll if you will.
what are you guys' current views on religion as a whole?

sickening to see the photo of the religious zealots all stood around the governor signing into law the right for people to discriminate against others (gay, lesbian, trans-gender) based purely on religious dogma.. if religious people want those freedoms then the can't have it both ways - they cannot complain if *they* are discriminated against.. "sorry, we don't like zionists, get out".
"oh, it's some special mass and you can't work your shift?
you're fired!"..
Marvin - If that's the case then will all JW's be forced to partakes in holidays, military things, gay events, etc? If the jw refuses then the company fires them, can they no longer claim religious discrimination? Or if they are not hired no longer claim religious discrimination? (A jw works at any restaurant, they must partake in happy birthday or they are discriminating and the business can get in trouble so they don't hire them or fire them, etc, etc.) Can't say they can use other employees, what if they are the only server at the time?

Religion has done a lot of good. It can be used for good or bad. 500/1000 years ago when much of the world was warring tribes religion is what brought peace. Religion united man, it's also responsible for much of the advancement of civilization. We wouldn't be where we are today without it. Religion reigned in on barbarism, punishment or reward in the afterlife depending on how you treat fellow man. Religion can keep in check a truly evil person if they believe there is punishment or reward for how they treat others in an afterlife. Religion can also make a good person evil depending on what they are taught to believe. (ISIS, crusades, killing of apostates, human sacrifice, etc) Then many also absolutely don't want to believe that this life is it, they need some hope that there is a continuation or more after this. Some don't care, they are fully happy believing this is it and don't care if there is a chance of anything else.
You can find faults and positives in religion, atheism, agnosticism. It can be debated forever because not any one has only positives and no negatives. Depends on the people and how they respond to it.

The solution should be 'private' choice vs company public policy.
If somebody owns a florist and they are the only employee, if they don't want to service a gay wedding, then the gay couple should move on to the next florist, somebody else will be more than happy to take their money.
Now if the florist shop is has many employees, then the florist shop itself or company shouldn't have a policy that discriminates, each employee would be free to choose.
The LGBT agenda claims they just want equal rights and they are not 'shoving it down peoples throats', but then they go to a small business who the owners are not comfortable, and instead of moving to the next person want to sue them, that is shoving it down their throats.
I remember as a JW, JW's weren't supposed to work for any companies that were linked to military, or involved in birthdays, holidays, etc.
Now on the other hand, if laws will be forcing people to do services and things they don't want that go against their beliefs, then those on this forum who keep saying that DFing will never be banned by law because it goes against religious freedom, think again, if these people have their religious freedom taken away because it's deemed discrimination or wrong, then how much more so is the dfing and shunning policy? And especially if these people are making their own choice without their churches telling them to do so, how much more so when the WT puts in print, "don't look for excuses to talk to dfed family members, even through email".
here is the link to a recent news article.
maybe it was commented before, but today was the first i had seen it.. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/jehovah-witnesses-video-slammed-threats-kids-article-1.2116873.
i guess caleb is getting around.
i would like this to become a permanent thread, because i think there are grounds - at least in europe - to take this matter up to the european court of human rights.
not sure we'll ever get there, but one must start somewhere.
objective: force, by legal means, the watchtower society and the jehovah's witnesses to stop the practice of shunning ex-jehovah's witnesses, on grounds that it constitutes a violation of human rights.. what is needed: all written material ever published by the watchtower society, especially since 1940's, concerning the practice of shunning.
(posted for andersonsinfo).
people are protesting against plans to build a large care home for jehovahs witnesses behind their houses.. homeowners living in the bloors lane area of rainham have lodged objections to proposals by the jah jireh charity, which specialises in spiritual and physical care for followers of the religion.. people living in neighbouring homes say it is too big and its three storeys will dwarf their properties.. .
what the care home will look like.
with the org creating so many new songs, we should give them assistance in coming up with better ideas....!.
"everyone will die, except for us".
(happy, upbeat song about dead bodies after the big a).
o and from an old thread somewhere I think, I just googled to get some lyrics, people had remade "The Farmer and the Cowbody Should be Friends" from "Oklahoma" to "The GB and the 'postate should be friends".
Oh the GB and the 'postate should be friends
Oh the GB and the 'postate should be friends
One man likes his Watchtower fame
The other likes Peter, Paul and James
But that’s no reason why they cain’t be friends
Commentaries, folks, shouldn’t be forbidden.
Commentaries, folks, should not be banned
Albert Barnes was not so far off
Matthew Henry’s still in demand
I’d like to say a word fer the GB --
He likes it best without a lot of changes
For comfort he loves lots and lots of fences
So many they criss-cross the Bible’s pages!
Oh the GB and the 'postate should be friends
Oh the GB and the 'postate should be friends
The GB, like old Popes, decrees:
Bring those 'postates to their knees
But that’s no reason why they cain’t be friends
I’d like to say a word for the 'postate
The road he treads is difficult and stony
He reads for days on end
And knows he might lose all his friends
At least they might feel sorry at the "stoning"!
Oh the GB and the 'postate should be friends
Oh the GB and the 'postate should be friends
One man likes his Watchtower fame
The other likes Peter, Paul and James
But that’s no reason why they cain’t be friends
