THEN - I did school in 80's and 90's and never worried about school shootings
NOW - since Columbine, they seem to be a weekly/monthly event
Bottom line, things have improved in certain areas and in others have declined.
being back in college after leaving the borg, one of the required classes for a degree at my college is ethics.
after learning a few things, i am curious where morality and ethics is heading for the future of humanity.
i wish i could find the source again, but several weeks ago i recalled reading a transcript of a very old document that talked about when christianity was being spread in europe, it brought civility and community.

the good old days - THEN - when businesses took care of their employees and rewarded for years of service and gave fair pay.
NOW - businesses have their employees bend over and take it, cut benefits, no more pensions and rewards for years of service, cut pay, layoff and hire cheap labor, take advantage of job market to squeeze out as much work as possible and cut pay and benefits as low as possible and have them scraping by just so the owners/stock/etc can make a few extra bucks
THEN - many many many years ago when government taxed as low as possible, even gave back a surplus, priority was what was best for the people and the country, laws written to protect the people.
NOW - corruptions rules, change laws to allow sponsor companies of politicians to screw everyone else, politicans in with military contractors having a yearly increasing open checkbook for as much as they want, allowing insurance industry to squeeze everyone and changing laws to force it and each year squeeze more, politican tied energy, medical, military, food, bank industries to go unchecked and always favor the corporations vs the people.
just thought of another question that could start someone waking up.
you could say something to the effect of, "i was thinking how if we were to come across a person in the ministry who asks us how luke 21:8 does not apply to jws in light of the comments such as the ones (quoted below) how could we respond?".
or you could say that someone at work or school presented you with the awake quote and said luke 21:8 proves jws false, then you could say you need help coming up with a response to him.. luke 21:8 .
the GB are so blind. Jesus said that the generation of Israel alive during his time would see the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. However for the last days and the end, nobody knows the day or the hour, and it does not belong to you to know the time frame of that (those were the kind of words he said about that).
He words came true. But they are blind to see that the 'this generation' part of his prophecies was only referring to the destruction of Jerusalem.

Most here were raised religious. I know personally before I could 'understand' why things were right and wrong, I was just told what was right and wrong and God saw everything, so if I wasn't being looked at, even if I didn't understand why it's wrong, I just didn't do it because he was watching.
Those who don't believe in any God/accountability, what are you teaching your kids? Especially before they can understand what is right and wrong?
Let's take stealing for example. How would you teach a 3 or 4 year old not to steal, and in a way in which if they were not being watched and could get away with it, that their conscience would kick in?
i just caught the last few minutes and counted at least three disfellowshipping worthy actions portrayed.
he was alone in his room with a girl.
he practiced magic.

Let's see, dressed in all black (satanic), long hair (worldly), doing meditation or some ritual with candles (witchcraft or false religious practices), alone w/ a girl without any elders supervising (probably committing fornication / bad example) and the fact that it's at night time since they need candles on is automatic DFing because people only have sex at night and never during the day.
Yeaaa, he might be having a trip to the back room.

For those who don't think or understand that although things on some topics have improved, there is also a downfall in others.
Look at this video clip and ask yourself if the kids would be responding this way 20/50 years ago.

Here is a video we had to watch in class,

He talks about the differences of the decline of ethics/morality/character/etc based on real studies vs the improvements and lessening of prejudices, etc.

Also I want to ad, the point of this post is not to debate if religious people are more moral and ethical then athiests and vice versa, that is NOT what I'm getting at. I'm asking, since traditionally religion has been used to teach and establish morals and "be good to your neighbor" "dont steal" "dont cheat", accountability whether caught or not, etc, how will or can those things be replaced with the decline of religion?

In the ethics class, we saw a video showing studies and changes from the 1950's to present day. Even though there were many prejudices and problems back then, there has definitely been a shift from humility and community to selfishness and disregard of manners, ethics, etc.
2 correlations are a major decline in religion and kids not being raised by parents because of both of them working.
For thousands of years, religion is what taught people what is right and wrong (whether all of it was correct or not), and instilled in people even if they don't get caught, someone else is still watching.
Even though the decline of religion may have a positive of everybody is more tolerant of each other (no judging), is humanity going back into a barbaric phase where everyone is for only themself, if they don't get caught they'll do whatever they can get away with, etc?
How are children to be taught what is right and wrong? They have a short life, why not lie, steal, and cheat and do all they can to get as much as they can as long as they can get away with it since there is no consequence if they don't get caught? Why is it wrong? Isn't it just survival of the fittest?
