  for the record, i don't think a person should be able to use "assault weapons" or "machine guns" or "rocket launchers".

  i do think guns should be allowed.

  but certainly not everyone is "qualified" to use a firearm.. even if you legally, rightfully can have a weapon, it doesn't mean that a "kook" wouldn't steal it and use it in a nefarious way.. i am convinced that you could take licenses away from drinkers and they still could get behind the wheel and wreak havoc.. you could ban switchblades and gun silencers and people will still find a way to quickly slice you up or muffle a sound.. you could ban or try to curtail cough medicines and people will still find a way to get high.. we cannot, government cannot---control what people will do.

  There will always be disturbed or evil people who think the way to get attention is to harm others. However what you can do is make it harder for them to cause harm. What I could never understand is why assault weapons are available for members of the general public? I understand the arguments for hunting and the use of a hand gun for those who feel they need to ensure personal safety but assault weapons serve no valid purpose in civilian society.

  It would indeed be a great shame if the USA didn't learn from it's tragedies and was doomed to repeat them.

  early yesterday morning i was driving through town on a street that rearly has any foot traffic and never at 7:30 am on a sunday morning and there they were.

  a group of jbubs milling about counting time.

  i drove a little further and there was a second group walking slowly down the street in the morning drizzle.

  It always seemed to me that the time counted more than the number contacted. Seeing as JWs are so stats orientated it would be easier to change the requirement from hours to people contacted.

  good morning all,.

  i have had the opportunity over the last couple of years to speak with a couple of jw's who had either attended the same congregation i did or were married to someone who to the same one.

  for the record, i disassociated myself in 1992 due to being followed around by an elder or two who had heard that i had ray franz's "crisis of conscience" in my possession.

  I never speak to anyone from my old congregation and have no idea what they have said about me. They probably haven't noticed I have gone.

  With witnesses someone has to be mentally ready to accept the possibility that they have been misled. Telling them too much too soon just forces them back in and plays to all their fears. It is also true that for some the cult fufils a need since it is hard to see how they would fit in or have any social life without the meeting structure which also insists that other people put themselves out for them. For parents there is also the issue that accepting that they have been misled means they also have to accept that they brought their children up in a harmful cult and did not give them a normal or happy life. Steve Hassan is right that if they are happy in the cult there will be little motivation to change.

  Trying to get someone out is a balancing act weighing up what the consequences will be for them with the benefits of mental freedom.

  Approaching the subject obliquely has the best chance since any direct challenge will cause them to retreat into the cult and raise a barrier to any further discussion.

  Yes you were played. The problem is JWs do not have proper relationships, the only one that counts is the relationship with their faith. As you did not share his beliefs your thoughts, feelings and aspirations counted for nothing. Your relationship was forbidden fruit and whatever he said he was lying. He should not have been dating outside the faith or having sex outside of marriage. He wanted to go back to the religion and you were an obstacle. He also wanted to enjoy your company and have sex without making any emotional comitment to you. You were an object in his life but not a person.

  He lied to you all. It is better that you found out sooner rather than later. You are worth more than this and he did not and does not appreciate and value you. There will be someone who does I am sure.

  He brought her INTO MY HOUSE!

  im stuck in hell here...im stuck in a house i cant get sold, to get the money so that i can get the divorce and get away from this cheatin ass jw im married to.

  i know every single time he goes out he goes to be with her ("but only in groups") and even though he was told by the elders to not have contact with her because its inappropriate he continues to do so unabated.

  last week i went across the state to attend my sons final state marching competition as a senior...which he never went to ever.

  The man has no class and is a selfish inconsiderate arse. If the religion were that important to him he would have had the decentcy to get divorced and then think about a new relationship rather than start shopping around whilst still married. I can't see him restraining himself and she is no better. They are the ones trapped in a religion that has these rules and they can chose to follow them or not. Whether he is with her or not is not your responsibility. Whether he is happy or not after the divorce is not your concern.

  You have every right to be angry and annoyed any other response would be inappropriate. The sooner you can break free from this relationship the better. You are there for your children and that counts, investing in the relationships that are meaningful and important is far better than being the whipping boy for someone who doesn't appreciate that you are awesome.
