Is this new donation arrangement for real?
by nugget injust read a post on jwsurvey about the new donation arrangement.
congregations are to pledge a monthly amount to be sent to the society to fund the building of assembly halls and kingdom halls.
congregations who already have a loan from the society will no longer have to pay back the loan but the amount pledged should not be less than the current monthly repayments to the society.

I think that time has changed the Watchtower a great deal, what we once did not believe was possible has proven to be business a usual. this organisation has changed radically since I was baptised and will continue to do so. The rumours of today are possibly closer to the truth than we could imagine.

If families are supposed to sit down with an elder to go over tax returns there may be things they spend money on that the society would prefer that they didn't. Cable TV, magazine subscriptions, professional memberships, gym memberships, pensions, etc. Families could be encouraged to transfer these funds to their pledged amount.
The society can no longer state that they do not beg for money or solicit donations since that is exactly what they are doing.

Why do I bother to wake up in the morning?
by punkofnice ini'm not suicidal just fed up.. i did think of suicide (briefly), but as there is no painless way and it's not something i would willingly do just in case things would have been better the day after.
i do have a slight grain of hope.. money problems.....problems at home (that's another matter with a son up court for something he is adamant he didn't do.
first offence but the pigs police and the cps have got charges made.

Life can sometimes seem more of an endurance than a gift. However your son needs you to be there for him, you are stressed by the whole thing but I am sure he is stressed too. Sometimes police get it wrong. I have sat on a jury where the evidence against the defendant was so thin it was hard to see why the case had ever come to court. He was found not guilty because the evidence to convict just wasn't there. Just because your son has been charged it does not also follow he will be convicted. That being said it is a horrible thing to face and there is the inevitable worry.
You do have a great girlfriend and a positive future 56 is not decrepit. Yes you did give up far too much time to a cult but you are not alone in that. Get out in the fresh air and get some energy back in you there is so much more to accomplish and you have less time to cram it all in than before don't let your talent go to waste.

I felt so sad reading the post on JW survey the congregation will permanently be in debt to the society. Everyone pays. The rich congrgations give money to the society so they can build halls for poor congregations who are in debt to the society forever for the new hall. So for one hall the society is paid multiple rents.
Call it what it is exploitation and rent paid to a company that did not pay for the original hall, did not build it, did not maintain it or pay the bills on it.
I sincerely hope this does wake up some when they realise that it is all about the money.

Not long ago they were asking for donations of time and money for the new building projects I bet they didn't get the money they were hoping for as some congregations had local projects they needed the money for. This is a way of getting even more out of the rank and file since people will feel pressured. So alongside the donations for worldwide work, the local contribution box, CO expenses, bills and maintenance there will be building fund donations.
I wonder how many local needs talks there will be about the need to maintain payments and keep up with the pledged amount.

Just read a post on JWsurvey about the new donation arrangement. Congregations are to pledge a monthly amount to be sent to the society to fund the building of assembly halls and Kingdom Halls. Congregations who already have a loan from the society will no longer have to pay back the loan but the amount pledged should not be less than the current monthly repayments to the society. (therefore their loan payments continue indefinitely). Congregations will review the donation every year in May but once pledged there does not appear to be any wriggle room. I was wondering at what point congregations with a loan would be able to reduce their payment to the society or is this a burden they carry indefinitely.
Congregations that have been saving to buy a new hall or refurbishment are being encouraged to donate all their surpluses to the society holding back only as much as is needed for minor repairs. This means that there will be no wealthy congregations holding large surpluses that they can use as they wish.
I have a number of questions
I wonder what will happen to congregations who are close to affording a new hall and who donate all their surplus to the society. Will the society "fund" the new hall and then suggest that the congregation ups it's monthly pledge as if they were paying back a loan.
Will the society cover the cost of land in this new arrangement or will congregations have to fund that themselves?
Who makes the decision about building projects and what will be the criteria for having a new hall funded by the society. I suspect that congregations may not be deemed needy enough or the society will say that money is being used in poorer places where building costs are lower.
What will happen to congregations that do not want to donate surpluses to the society or whose monthly pledge is considered too low?
What will happen if congrgations can't afford the monthly pledge because a drop in numbers or because more affluent brothers move away?
Will this money have to be used for building projects and will it be used for the new HQ freeing up the billion from Brooklyn to be spent how they please.
What will happen if the kingdom has a mjor issue that needs thousands of pounds to resolve? How long will it take to get money back from the society for repairs, is this situation even covered by this arrangement or will the congregation be expected to use insurance.
I felt sick reading the post on JW Survey so glad to be out right now.
