People are all different. Being a jw doesnt make someone good or bad and neither does someone leaving make them intrinsically good. Many people leave the faith or are thrown out of it and some will be people with values and some will not.

Are JW's allowed to have close non JW friends?
by 007DB1 ini am a non-participating christian who is fully respectful of but never had anything to do with jw.. i have a jw friend who seems to closely follow his jw belief's.
i have met most of his family and friends who all are also jw's.
he says i am his only non-jw good friend.. he is getting married this year to his long time gf and with our recent growing more guarded and distant friendship, i am wondering what is going on?.

You are told to be wary of no n jws. I suspect that he is trying to distance himself because although you are his friend you will not be on the guest list for his wedding. He knows that you may have expectations that you would be invited but he doesnt want to explain why he invited a worldly non relative to the wedding. He would rather avoid the conversation and be distant than fess up that his religion is making him behave like an arse.
You can get rid of the elephant in the room by saying I am happy for you, I know that you may not be able to invite all your friends as family takes priority but I will be thinking of you and hope you enjoy your day.

How many of you actually KNOW the bible OR God???
by Mark Zyche insince jws are sooooooo terrible and full of lies.
what the heck do you think about fat santa, and and days later the celebration of janus?.
since you seem to be so good at looking at the "lies of the watchtower" what do you people think of your lives now, religiously speaking?

Mark I would like to suggest that you should not make assumptions about my beliefs since youdo not know from my posts on this thread where I stand. I have said that the questions you ask show a limited understanding of the Bible text. I would read historic posts by leolia who has a breadth of k owledge and understanding of the text which would benefit you greatly

Just as an aside it is perfectly OK not to have formulated an opinion about a specific text taken out of context. We are after all reading the text in translation and outside of the historical context in which it was written. A more appropriate question would be what did the person writing the text mean and what did his contempories think it meant.
It is not OK to ask a question and then use the answer as a stick to beat someone with.

Mark I feel for you and you selective viewpoint which states that you are right and only your interpretation counts. This gives you permission to be rude to people with whom you disagree.
There is more than one perspective and in order to debate you need to listen as well as present your case. I feel that you may currently lack this skill but hope youj rethink your approach.

Everyone is in a process of change and development which does not stop our whole life is a learning process. The fact that you feel uncomfortable about the number of lies you have started telling would indicate that you haven't changed as much as you think. There is no reason why you cannot develop into someone who is known as honest and open but has tact and consideration for others.
Lies can get you into trouble especially if you tell too many, keeping track of them all is a tricky process. If you are in a relationship where you are telling needless lies then perhaps you need to look at this. Good relationships can withstand difficult truths.

The society dumbing down the teach book is no surprise but it is the witnesses who are getting dumber not the general public. -

Are JWs the worst restaurant customers?
by Alfred in(a little background info before i ask my question...).
my sister-in-law (non-jw), who manages a popular chain restaurant near a kingdom hall, just found out that my wife and i have recently faded, so she decided to get something off her chest the other day... you guessed it: she wanted us to know that jws are the worst customers ever!
she then told us some really embarrassing stories about how jws would request a table for 15 to 20 people (after a sunday meeting) and then (when the bill came) some of the jws would start deliberating amongst themselves on whether or not the waiter was diligent or not (to justify the low tip he was getting anyway).

We once went to a restaurant to celebrate the engagement of a witness couple. Because of the large number present we were seated at two tables. The waiters were exemplary the service was above reproach but at the end of the meal one table left without paying any gratuity and at our table the parents of the girl refused to pay the service fee. As a result my husband ended up paying the gratuity for the other table and the deficit on ours which amounted to a huge amount for one person to carry. We were not rich by any means and had budgeted for the night out but not for the extra burden. Many of those invited by comparison were well off but misers to the core. The service fee was compulsory for parties over 10 people, it was a reasonable charge and there was no reason to with hold it. Paying gratuities for 20 people soon mounts up. At least I know we are welcome back at the restaurant.
I always hated going out with witnesses and the splitting of bills because the amount never talied and no one saw the need to pay a tip.
