Looking at Geography with WTS
by ozziepost indid you know that europe isn't all that important?.
well, you may be surprised then to learn that the wts is correcting the worldly view of the world in the its latest (2001) yearbook.. europe: "though europe has long been classified as a continent, in reality it juts to the west as a gigantic peninsular of eurasia."(p56).
islands of the earth: "though we have included the island continent of australia here, the largest island is greenland"(p61) {gotta put it somewhere, i suppose!].

Masturbation
by CoolBreeze inthe title of this thread was one of the stumbling blocks of my study.
as a single full time father(with no time for dating)of a soon to be tenage son this was a major point of imprt to me.
the point came up during a discussion on porneia(sp?).

Hi coolbreeze,
I can't give you input becuase my situation is differnt but I just wanted to say I liked your post. Using the law and related, but different, scriptures to 'prove' a point is very indicative of the GB. You were much more perseptive than me becuase I was nearly a perfect study thinking these people had all the answers it wasn't until I was in the organization for a couple of years that I started to question.

As for me I believe in a creator (God) but I am much more interested now in spirituality and less so in orthodoxy. I also believe that Jehovah, Allah, Vishnu, etc, are all the same God just seen in a different cultural context.

Why do you consider the genesis account untrue. I agree with everything Achristian has said and I think that the genesis account is a good brief outline for creation. If you think about it when you write something you can make it timeless, or scientific but not both God just choose to make the creation account vague so it would be timeless. If God chose to be scientific the tribal men he gave his word to would not understand it. The genesis account just states that God created the heavens and the earth, that life on earth started simply and progressed untile the creation of man.
Sometimes also when you think about how Jesus spoke it can help to understand the rest of the bible, Jesus used stories to convey a 'truth' even though the story might not have been true, like the rich man and lazerus (sp?). Jesus was speaking metaphorically, there was never a rich man and lazuras but the message conveyed can be considerd a truth.

Hi Im a college student in california also.
If you want to have a good idea about their beliefs I would suggest the paradise earth book, the latest blood booklet, and the creator book. But bewarned these books do not protray JW life as it really is. If you want to do a through paper and have a better idea of what jw life is like I would also read Crisis of Conscious, In search of christian freedom and 1984.
JellyP.S. And to answer your questions JW's (active ones) would recruit with out doing research.

Good and Evil
by reigninhell ingood and evil.
two basic polarities.
would someone care to please define them, and the difference between them?.

Good is when you think of others as well as your self. Evil is when your only thought is self at the expense of others. Anyway, how can you really believe their is 'no difference' between good and evil? There are certain actions that all cultures can agree are wrong, like the nazi death camps. To say good and evil are purely ingrained in us by our culture is quite a stretch.

P.S. their is probably a better def. for good and evil but this is a decent quick and dirty def. -

Good post Achristian. That is exactly my view of the genesis account also, I really do not understand why fundies are so upset with the thought of evolution. I think there are three things we can learn from the genesis account: (1) The bible is very hard to understand (2) mans understanding is often flawed (esp. fundies) (3) when understood the bible can be a marvel.

Question 1: They are a religion, not necessarily a healthy one but they are one never the less.
Question 2: The governing body thinks of the organization before it thinks of anything else. Its the 'my country right or wrong attitude' that causes them to do so many stupid things.
Question 3: I think for myself, and thats why you may not agree with me.

Here is my view:
Creation occured through evolution, and man sprang from previous manlike animals. I dont think my view means the bible is wrong because I do think a creator (and possibly angels) started and directed the process. So to answer your question neanderthals are not specifically mentioned in the bible but to me that means nothing. The creation account in genesis is just a way for the creator to say that he started creation, that he developed the cosmos and then the earth, and that life started simply and became more complex leading eventually to man. Its about 20 sentences that covers billions of years so of course not everything that occured is going to be in there.
