Maybe this is a parallel for you guys. I remember working in a restaurant for a family of witnesses. Every year at Christmas when all the other restaurants were decorated with the seasonal fetishes this place was as completely devoid of decoration. I remember the owners complaining that they lost business due to this practice, and claimed people were shunning them because of their beliefs. Actually, most people were probably just in the Christmas mood so went somewhere more in line with their feelings, but some never came back. The restaurant is out of business now. So famous or not business is business, do not upset your customers. Many things in life are not fair but this is just reality.
Should the Dixie chicks be treated as they are; probably not. However, something else that cannot be denied is that they are incredibly stupid. I think if they had actual criticisms of the war and expressed them in a way that was not an insult to the president, they would not be in the current state they are in. Honestly, it is not only that they were against the war but also it was the way in which they proclaimed their opposition that does not sit well with some people.

The Dixie Chicks
by Stan Conroy ini don't understand the logic of boycotting the dixie chicks because of the comments the singer made about being ashamed that bush is from texas.
it doesn't make sense to me.
keep in mind that i'm just a canadian, so maybe i'm just not tuned in to the american way of thinking.

Look you guys this is not that hard to understand. The Dixie Chicks have every right to say what ever they wish; no one is stopping them from talking. However, one of the first rules of business is
DO NOT PISS-OFF YOUR CORE CONSUMERS.
People are not under a constitutional duty to buy Dixie Chick albums if they upset there customers enough sales drop, welcome to the lifestyles of the famous. It may not be right but it is reality.

Back from the Memorial
by ScoobySnax inwell like i say, just got back from the memorial, have been going most years, but this year i went by chance (knew it was roughly at 7pm at the nearest kh) to my old congregation that i grew up in.
i didn't find the "evil" people spoke of here on this forum, or those too stupid to see.
all i did see was people i hadn't seen in years, and let me tell you, what lovely people they were.

Scoob,
I glad you had a good night. I dont believe I, like most here, would get the same greeting if I wandered back to my hall but that does not mean your experience was false. Maybe you just belong to an exceptional cong. and have exceptional JW friends.

The looting that is going is unfortunate but the ‘criticize at all cost’ crowd is overlooking two glaring facts.
First, the overriding goal of the Americans was to end the war as quickly as possible. As has been stated here to the point of exhaustion, wars kill innocent people. While innocent death can be minimized in cannot be eliminated so the longer the war last the more innocent people will die. While the war was in its final stages when the looting began, to draw troops away from finishing the war, hence lengthening it would have increased both civilian and US deaths.
The second fact, which is related to the first, is that you cannot plan for everything in a war. I don’t believe the JCS realized was the Iraqis became free of Saddam they were all going to loot. It does take at least a few days to develop a plan and begin to implement it.

Another thing to remember is that the US does not train our troops to be cops. The jobs of cop and soldier is not interchangeable, ones job is to kill people the others job is to stop crime, I am not surprised our troops are not good at this right out of the gate. -

Should the US & Canada use the same currency?
by JH insince a few years, the euro has been introduced in europe.
many countries share the same currency.. would it be a good idea if everyone in north america would use the american dollar just like everyone uses the euro in europe?
would this be financially beneficial, or would this be a first step in canada becoming a part of the us?

I can’t see any real value of the US and Canada switching to a common currency. The economic situation between the US and Canada is not similar to that of France, Germany, etc.
If I remember correctly the main stated reasons Europe switched to the Euro was to help large European multinationals deal with exchange rate difficulties, and to create an economic bloc roughly the size of the US, Canada, and Mexico. For example, if Airbus in France purchased an engine from Germany at eight in the morning it could cost 1000 francs but by noon, the same engine could cost substantially more or less depending on the variations of the two countries currency value. This kind of financial variation makes financial planning difficult.

Yes Simon you are so correct. I live in California with a large immigrant population I can tell you first hand the Chinese (nothing like forcing a little opium on people) just love the Brits, as do the Irish (you guys fight so well in cities due to all the practice you had screwing with the Irish, to bad the potato famine did not kill them all of like you wanted), and the Indians (you thing the trouble is bad in Iraq now, how about the happy love fest that occured in India when you guys decolonized them).
Just like you were correct about Iraqis hating us, was not there a thread on here somewhere about one of us apologizing if we were wrong?
