It isn't odd if you think about it. Russel and Rutherford needed some authority to which they could appeal. The bible was and is a great authority to fall back on. Remember that the JWs were a offshoot of the protestant movement which rejected Catholicism but still held the Bible as the unerring word of God. They even called themselves Bible students at first, likely to show that they were going back to the original source and "restoring" the original intent of the scriptures. It may not make sense to us today, but for people in those times having a clear understanding "what the bible really teaches," was very appealing. The pseudo-intellectualism of analyzing Bible prophecy likely also stroked peoples egos as they felt they had gained a secret knowledge that others didn't possess.

by pale.emperor inso lloyd evans will shortly be releasing his new book how to leave the jehovah's witnesses.
i do enjoy his rebuttals and the stuff he manages to get hold of and leak.

The man is doing good work and exposing a lot of the inner workings of WT. If people are so upset about him making a living off of it, then they don't need to buy his stuff or read his blog.

This is actually old news. They have had this functionality about two years.
That's weird, wonder why they announced it then? Maybe, not many people are signing up on their own?

Why are there more sisters than brothers at the Kingdom Hauls?
by Sour Grapes ini have always wondered why there are more females than males in all of the congregations that i have visited?
some of these females are in their 70's so maybe their husbands have died and women just live longer.
or could the reason be that years ago men were the breadwinners and women stayed home to raise the children thus they were home during the week when the jdubs came a knocking?

Not to be crass but a lot of born in males leave after being DFd for fornication or they never get baptized because waiting until marriage just doesn't appeal to them.

A funny idea about dating in the paradise...
by JW_Rogue inhow in the hell would it ever work?
everyone is youthful, everyone is perfect, everyone's personality is loving and kind.
how would you choose somebody?
-
JW_Rogue
As they move toward perfection, will women get firmer boobs and men who are not that well hung see their parts change? Will white brothers grow to the size of their black (African) brethren?
LOL Perfect servants of God would never be so superficial. If all the ugly people are gone how will we know who's who?

Another School Shooting: The Gun Violence/Mental Illness Debate Continues
by jp1692 inin the aftermath of the valentine's day school shooting in florida, i have read quite a number of articles, blogs and posts about the event.
it is disturbing--and i think inexcusable--that many people take the opportunity to use horrible tragedies such as this to push their own particular agenda.. in particularly insensitive and tone-deaf tweet, conservative political commentator tomi lahren wrote: "can the left let the families grieve for even 24 hours before they push their anti-gun and anti-gunowner agenda?
my goodness.

The problem is that it is hard to identify who is going to carry out these attacks. Often the people who have the most insight are part of the problem (parents or guardians). If you ban anyone who is on anxiety meds or antidepressants from owning a gun, then this will be fought in court as discrimination. To monitor every kid who makes a threat on social media is beyond the realm of possibility. Maybe as a culture we simply have a problem.
