I'm confused wasn't the UK a power for years before they joined the EU. What makes people now think that they will suddenly fall apart? Sure it make take some time to adjust but I'm willing to bet they will recover. This is big blow to the EU and proponents of globalization more than it is anything else.

No! No! No! This can't be true? brexit? No!
by purrpurr init seems britain has voted to leave the eu in a move of total madness!
the markets are already in free fall and the moronic bigots who campaigned for this are celebrating the demise of our country .. i can't see how a 49-51% split can be democratic?
there is still the postal vote to come in, maybe there's hope in that?

Jehovah protects his people. Did he ever protect you?
by TimeBandit inhello forum.
i started this topic because i had been thinking recently about a story that i had heard many times in different congregations over the years.
kind of a jw urban legend if you will.

Ahh, yes but he offered you "spiritual protection" it's like real protection except it just allows you to keep your faith in JW.org. Too bad you chose to deny his wonderful "spiritual protection" and DA yourself. Now you've opened yourself up to "spiritual attacks" from Satan and his demon cohorts. These "spiritual attacks" are worse than physical ones because they blind you to God's word and don't allow you to return to his "clean organization."

Do you still believe in the concept of absolute truth?
by JW_Rogue injws very much believe that there is an absolute truth and of course, they are the only ones who have it lol.
how about now though do you still believe that absolute truths exist?
or is everything subjective?

Absolute truth about what? The braggings of a imagined Deity of the bible is that absolute truth? God is Love type of absolute truth? Theory of everything absolute truth? Ultimate reality absolute truth? What is this vague abstract shadowy thing we call absolute truth anyway?
Meaning that there are underlying facts which can't be disputed, it is not a religious question but a philosophical one. Some say that it is a fact that the sky is blue for example but another philosophy would say that the color blue is just how our human mind interprets the light reflecting off of the Earth's atmosphere. So some say everything is subjective and must take into account the perspective of the person who experiences it. As JWs we all had a very concrete view of the world; good vs. evil, black and white, perfect vs imperfect. So now that we have left that thinking behind are we also to leave behind the notion of any inherent truths?
My own opinion is that much of the things we call truths are actually subjective. Ideas about morality are often influenced by cultural norms and society. The notion of free will could also be said to subjective as well, perhaps our genetic code and upbringing only leave us with an illusion of choice. Underneath it all though there are truths, laws that govern the universe in which we live. There is reason for everything but like other animals the answers aren't within our reach. Just my thought and opinion.

Anti-religion T-Shirt idea
by Simon ini want a t-shirt.
something that says "religion is crap, i don't care which one".. i was thinking of adapting the "coexist" one to say "toxic" instead which is great because it removes 'science' but includes all the major world religions.. anyone else have any ideas?.
also a tag-line ... "whatever god you worship, he's a weirdigan".

I actually find these quite terrible and will likely just make religious people think that they are being persecuted if they see one.

Moments Of Clarity As A Born In JW
by JW_Rogue in-when i was in my early teens we were studying the revelation book for the second time.
the first time i didn't understand much but the second time i remember that my family had quite a lengthy discussion about the lake of fire.
they were trying make sense of the scripture and the jw interpretation.

Oops, I forgot about the 2013 annual meeting that every hall in the US was tied into. At first I was actually very interested and felt like something big was going to be revealed. Then the announcement of the new bible came and that was nice but not earth shattering. Then the final talk was given by Tony Morris of the GB. Now being that almost all JWs were going to hear this talk I felt like it was going be something really rousing. That the GB would have gotten together and come up with something to show why we should continue on, why the preaching work was important, to commend the Brothers for all the work they do. Instead Tony Morris starts off on his list of things he doesn't like and instead of saying he'll support his talk through scriptures he says it is all supported by "our publications."

My moments of clarity were mostly with regards to shunning and the higher education ban
I actually went to college and continued as an auxiliary pioneer, I think for a short period they relaxed on the higher education thing as long you weren't leaving home to go live in a dorm.

No Reason For JWs To Go To The MIdweek Meeting (CLAM)
by JW_Rogue ineverything that is done at the midweek meeting can now be done at home.
the videos are online, the first talk is scripted, the bible highlights are scripted.
you could get the same experience by just reading and watching the material from your tablet.

LOL Billy, I think I remember they did a assembly demo one time where brothers were talking about sports, jobs etc and they are encouraged by another brother to talk about "spiritual things"

Don't forget all that wonderful 'encouragement' and 'upbuilding'..
Honestly, it's very awkward making conversation with people you've known for years but don't really care about that much. I'm sure some feel the same way about me. LOL
