This is kind of different but I just wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. It seems that younger married brothers are viewed with a certain level of suspicion in the congregation. It's like the Elders can be friendly with everyone in the hall including younger sisters. Young single brothers can also talk to everyone as they are single. However, if a youngish married brother talks with a single sister even in passing he is viewed as though he is a flirt or a "player". Kind of ridiculous that you have to specifically avoid talking to certain people at the hall but that is how it is.

Did anyone else go to this weeks midweek meeting?
by NikL inin the congregation bible study, the book addressed how "truth" is progressive.... 18 just as jehovah progressively revealed truths about the kingdom in the period leading up to 1914, he continues to do so during the time of the end.
as chapters 4 and 5 of this book will show, over the past 100 years, god’s people have had to adjust their understanding on a number of occasions.
does that fact mean that they do not have jehovah’s backing?

“It seems to be a safe rule to follow, that prophecy can not be understood by us until it is fulfilled or in the course of fulfillment.” Now that we are deep into the time of the end, many Kingdom prophecies have been and are being fulfilled. Because God’s people are humble and willing to be corrected, Jehovah has allowed our understanding of his purpose to become more complete. True knowledge has become abundant!
I guess I wasted 5 years of my life studying "The Revelation" book and "Daniel's Prophecy", thanks for admitting it was all BS.

The Debate Is Over...
by JW_Rogue infor years theologians and historians have researched who the historical person known as jesus was and how much of the biblical account could be verified.
countless books have been written going into great detail.
this has been a controversial subject with some even claiming that jesus never existed.

For years theologians and historians have researched who the historical person known as Jesus was and how much of the biblical account could be verified. Countless books have been written going into great detail. This has been a controversial subject with some even claiming that Jesus never existed. Now all that has been settled though, by a four page article in the latest Awake! magazine. Using about ten quotes, bullet points and some attractive illustrations, it is proven once and for all that Jesus did exist. They even have room to explain his teachings and what his kingdom will do for mankind.

So the wife was watching the latest installment of JW Broadcasting and near the end there was a new segment on dating and courtship. It starts at about the 39 minute mark:
https://youtu.be/vuIr-AZSdM0?t=38m52s
It starts with a young sister maybe 25-30 who still seems to be living at home. Not just any home though, the type of home 90% of people on Earth cannot afford. Anyway so she meets a young Brother and they do all sorts of JW approved activities together: meetings, cart witnessing, group dates and talking on phone (no sexting) LOL. Everything is going great but then she starts noticing some troubling things about this Brother. Instead of eating dinner with the family he would rather watch a sporting event, the horror! Plus, he wants to foolishly spend money on his car instead of pioneering! Which shows he is materialistic, nevermind that her family appears to have a mansion, they are a good spiritual family. LOL The whole thing was ridiculous and will likely be ignored by anyone actually looking for a real relationship.

Easier to be a JW now?
by Xanthippe inreading konceptual's account of talking to cart 'witnesses' and it reminded me that when we left in '89 we thought the religion would do one of two things.
get more hardline, consequently lose members and eventually come to an end in some way.
or ease up on the members, fewer rules, less fs time, less meetings, just to keep them in.. all the recent apostate stuff, treatment of dfed kids and the hardline attitude to people who leave or try to fade has confused me, made me think they are harder on the r+f., but i don't think this is true.

To the OP: yes, in some ways they have lightened the load but they have ramped up the rhetoric so that those who don't fall in line are pushed to the side in the congregations. Only the uber-dubs are allowed in the inner circle of the congregations with the Elders and Pioneers. Also, you must remember that the cart work isn't available to every JW, you must be a pioneer or be approved by the Elders.

What is the purpose of life?
by slimboyfat inwhile reading the magazines the other day it occurred to me that jws never really had a very good answer to that question.
because it was aimed at young people and it said something along the lines, "if you believe in god you have a purpose, but if you don't believe in god your life has no purpose or meaning".
i think that is a faulty analysis of the situation.

Your purpose is what you want it to be.
It is true that everything we do will eventually be rendered meaningless by the passage of time. The whole universe will cease to exist at some point, by which time mankind will likely be long gone. No one asks, what purpose did the Dinosaurs have? Why should man be any different?
Our actions will likely only effect a small group of people for a short period of time. Still, in the present we each must decide what and who we find important. What kind of person do we want to be? What effect will we have?

Were YOU forced into a loveless marriage?
by Nathan Natas inmany young jw women are "married off" to virtual strangers, often older men, soon after they are of legal age.. did this happen to you?.
did it happen to a close friend or sibling?.
tell us about it.. from universal life ministries on facebook:.

Originally, they both seemed ok with it, but it was obvious to outsiders that they were being pushed together. They are still together (4+ years) so we'll see, but we all felt they were railroaded into it because the brothers and their parents just wanted to get both of them "settled".
I have seen this numerous times if people have been dating awhile and seem to be "serious" then JWs will pressure them to get married even if they are having doubts. Or JWs will say that only "serious couples" can do certain things like sit together at meetings or publicly show affection. This is done to apply pressure to the couple to get engaged. I think JWs don't want people to court to long for fear that they may have sex before marriage. However, they are doing more harm by ruining people's reputation simply because they decide that a relationship is not going to work. In the org you could be a virgin and still have bad reputation because "you're not serious about getting married."

Circuit ASSembly low-lites
by FedUpJW inso in an effort to relieve some pressure here are what i term the low-lites of yesterday's assembly that i had to endure for the sake of family still in and my progressing fade.
apologies in advance for being pretty long winded.. these may not all be the actual words used, but the ones i use are close, and they pretty well say what was said from the platform.. right off the bat in the opening prayer the praises of the governing body were spoken.
thanking the g.b.

I hope they do have a new 'no news' policy!!!! My jw loves to watch news and then make the usual jw comment, "things are getting so bad, blah, blah, blah....."
Such a weird statement considering they used to say that JWs need to keep themselves informed so that they can see bible prophecy coming true. If they aren't watching the nightly news, how will they know that "this system is getting worse everyday single day" and "it can't last much longer?"

If Watchtower can use a non-sequitur to say that Jesus now knows the day and the hour, despite Matthew 24:36 ....
by Island Man in... where's the good sense preventing them from again making a date prediction for the end and using a non-sequitur to justify their claim in the face of matthew 24:36?
"... but christ has been empowered in heaven to wage war against satan's world.
(rev 19:11-16) thus, it is reasonable to conclude that jesus now knows when armageddon will occur...." - watchtower july 2016, page 14, par.

I don't think WT would go so far as too actually choose a date again. They will simply imply that certain dates could be significant, for some JWs that will be enough to get them excited about the truth. Look at the Revelation book it has a big disclaimer at the beginning and people still thought every word was 100% truth from heaven.

So my husband got a letter
by Lost his mind inso, he received a letter that i am wondering if it is one of those open letters that are out there to denote time given.
it starts out with the name of the person sending it, then goes into the spiel...do you know our god's name?
when i was shown what it is, i kind of got upset.

Not a chain letter, probably they are getting time by writing to homes they weren't able to reach door to door. More than likely this brother sends out two or three of those a day to get his time started.
