The WT teaches that "fatherless boys" need special care and attention in the congregation. However, as brought out at the RC their definition of "fatherless boys" includes boys that have actual fathers who maybe very well qualified to teach and raise their sons. According to WT, if either of your parents aren't JWs then you are a "fatherless boy." It is the same as if they had abandoned you or passed away. Then they actively encourage someone who is totally unrelated to the child to step in and mentor him or her, taking the place of the unbelieving parent.

Told My Parents Yesterday That I Don't Want to Be a JW
by Saethydd ini wasn't entirely sure what to expect when i made the decision to tell my parents how i really feel, but i was prepared for the worst, fortunately, it didn't come to that.
after i told them i didn't want to go to the meetings anymore it led to a long talk with them.
they made a number of irksome and woefully uninformed statements but at least they were not aggressive and have said that they won't force me to move out over this, though, i can tell they are hoping they can convince me to "accept the truth," as long as i still live with them.

It is an interesting concept. If a person cannot find joy living day to day for a short period of time, why would they feel that living forever would have any more meaning? Eternal life on earth will just be doing more of the same of life now, but without any end to it.
Good point, the real fact is that many people just have not accepted death as their eventual end. It is not the purpose of life they are concerned about it is their own mortality. The meaningless of life without God is actually good because it allows one more freedom to pursue what they want now, instead of "waiting on Jehovah" for magical solutions.

When is a JW considered "awake"...?
by biblexaminer in1) they begin question .
2) they stop field service.
3) they stop going to kingdumb hall.

You are awake when you are 100% sure that this isn't "the truth" and further that they are a controlling group which is damaging in many ways.

Do JWs Really Bother You?
by minimus inin reality my experience with the witnesses is that they really don't bother me or bother with me which suits me just fine....are you "bothered" by the witnesses at this point of your life?.

Depends on if you're in the group or had the misfortune of being born into it. If so, their nonsense can be quite bothersome.

"Taking the "Lead" vs. "Leader"
by sir82 inthe wt articles for the past 2 weeks were the typical every-3-months-or-so attempt at justifying the sovereignty of the jw popes, the governing body.. aside from the usual specious reasoning and ridiculous assertions, i noted this:.
the articles went through great semantic pains to emphasize that, for the jws, jesus is "the leader", while the gb are merely "those taking the lead".. what, exactly, is the difference between a "leader" vs. "one who is taking the lead"?.
in what other sphere of human experience is such semantic pretzel logic even close to rational?.

Simon, don't start writing for the WT, you know how they love their illustrations. LOL

Everyone at my hall seemed to think it was awe inspiring that while we have "those taking the lead" we certainly don't have any leaders among except Jesus. Not sure how that makes any sense. It is literally the same exact word. SMH

1919 a Date with Zero Prophetic Meaning
by JW_Rogue ini've noticed that lately the wt has been using the date 1919 more often.
in an almost matter of fact way, they will state that this is the year jesus finished refining his people and appointed the fds.
the only problem is there is little proof or even prophetic antitypes given for why this must have been the year.

That doesn't even follow their own internal logic.

I've noticed that lately the WT has been using the date 1919 more often. In an almost matter of fact way, they will state that this is the year Jesus finished refining his people and appointed the FDS. The only problem is there is little proof or even prophetic antitypes given for why this must have been the year. This is the most recent explanation and it makes very little sense:
w14 11/15 p. 29-30
So, according to this explanation the first 1260 days are literal lasting from he middle part of 1914 to 1918. Even though the same "times, time and a half a time", are in other prophecies explained as being "a day for a year" and thus spanning 1260 years. However, the next three and half days mentioned in the prophecy aren't literal and they aren't an antitype either. They are simply a "comparatively shorter period of time", that so happens to bring the timeline right up to 1919. It is clear that the date 1919 is the what they wanted all along and this explanation is clumsy way to try to make it fit.Revelation 11:3 speaks of two witnesses who would prophesy for 1,260 days. The account then says that the wild beast would “conquer them and kill them.” But after “three and a half days,” these two witnesses would be brought back to life, much to the amazement of all onlookers.—Rev. 11:7, 11.
At the end of their preaching in sackcloth, these anointed ones were symbolically killed when they were thrown into prison for a comparatively shorter period of time, a symbolic three and a half days. In the eyes of the enemies of God’s people, their work had been killed, causing those opponents much joy.—Rev. 11:8-10.
However, true to the words of the prophecy, at the end of the three and a half days, the two witnesses were brought back to life. Not only were these anointed ones released from prison but those who remained faithful received a special appointment from God through their Lord, Jesus Christ. In 1919 they were among those who were appointed to serve as a “faithful and discreet slave” to care for the spiritual needs of God’s people during the last days.—Matt. 24:45-47; Rev. 11:11, 12.
Interestingly, Revelation 11:1, 2 links these events to a time when the spiritual temple would be measured, or evaluated. Malachi chapter 3 mentions a similar inspection of the spiritual temple, followed by a time of cleansing. (Mal. 3:1-4) How long did this inspection and cleansing work take? It extended from 1914 to the early part of 1919. This period of time includes both the 1,260 days (42 months) and the symbolic three and a half days referred to in Revelation chapter 11. -

New "paradise" video preview? "Will you be there?"
by stuckinarut2 inmy wife (unstuck) just saw a new 2-3 min video in her ex jw facebook feed, depicting a "paradise" scene preview.. it was complete with aerial shots and slow motion montages, with moving music.. scriptures were quoted across the screen, such as rev 21:3,4. i shazamed the music, and it came from another "worldly" album called "world of dreams.future world music" (you should see the song titles from that album!).
is it an official wt video, or some private persons production?.
if it is official, they seem to have once again resorted to desperate emotional manipulation tactics..... anyone else know?

Why does Jehovah choose certain people to rule with him in heaven?
by iWant2Learn inin other words, what good works have the 144000 done to be secured a place in heaven?
i am told they have already been chosen.
does that mean that jehovah also knows our future?
-

Yes, the 144,000 number should be considered figurative as much of the book of Revelation is made up of signs and numbers. The earthly Paradise is really only founded on a couple of scriptures in Revelation and the promise Jesus made to the sinner on the cross. There are some scriptures in the old testament but those really apply to ancient Israel and weren't considered prophecy at all. The more plausible interpretation would be that all Christ followers are heaven bound.
