Anybody here still believe in the bible?
by Mel Morris ini'm a current bible student of jw's looking to chat with someone about biblical doctrine.
i'm not interested in talking with an apostate or a fader, i'm just a person looking for answers and wondered if there are any neutral voices in this forum who have good insights into the bible.
i currently talk with a couple of jw's on a personal level from my congregation and they are knowledgeable to a certain extent, but i dare not ask them certain questions because, as you know, the congregation has a culture of fear that impacts trust and openness, especially concerning biblical doctrine or the societies teachings.

A Gem From The May Study WT "Know Your Enemy"
by JW_Rogue inin fact, only three books of the hebrew scriptures, 1 chronicles, job, and zechariah, mention satan, which means “resister.” why was little said about our enemy prior to the arrival of the messiah?.
3 apparently, jehovah did not want to give satan undue prominence by devoting large portions of the hebrew scriptures to discussing him and his activity.
jehovah’s primary purpose for inspiring that section of the scriptures was to identify the messiah and lead god’s people to him.. .

Jehovah God then said: “Here the man has become like one of us in knowing good and bad. Now in order that he may not put his hand out and take fruit also from the tree of life and eat and live forever,
Here the great Jehober lets us all know that Satan did NOT lie to Eve, and the plan the creator of all things needed a Plan-B asap cuz he F-ed up.Yeah, that part never made sense so then in effect humankind could have had freedom and eternal life but God wanted us to die instead.

The weird part is the rest of the article is about not being naive about Satan's tactics. It's so odd that they would even add this part. Why bring up a point that you can't readily explain? A point that goes against the theme of the article.

Or it could be that Satan wasn't an important part of Jewish beliefs at the time. Perhaps the bible isn't this coherent book with a singular theme at all. Instead of just making up an explanation that fits the doctrine, more research should be done. Are these simplistic explanations supposed to help people with doubts? I'm not sure why they would even want to point this out?

Is There Life After Death
by Brokeback Watchtower ini think this is a well developed discussion, of ian stevenson's work in investigating people's past lives claims.
it's a little long.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0attm9hgcdw.

What if life after death is not like some continuous series of lives but a complete restart? Think about like this: right now, all manner of life is being created everyday. Of course you don't experience those lives because currently you are experiencing your own reality through your brain. Now let's say you pass on, your consciousness no longer exists it is not passed on in anyway to anyone else. You're nothing, you cease to exist. However, lives are still being created and a consciousness must still inhabit them. It could be that a new consciousness would be experienced first hand but without any connection to any past life.

Online Bible Study! Yes they finally did it!
by Ray Frankz inhttps://www.jw.org/en/online-help/using-jw-org/online-bible-study-lessons/online-bible-study-lessons-video/.
since the org discovered the internet i saw that one day they would release an online bible study so the people didn't need the witnesses to be indoctrinated by the gb.
i have to admit that i didn't think they would do it now, without a great cerimony or announcement, but, hey, it's on!.

I was surfing around and it looks like the same old content just now being presented as "lessons," it has the study bible but other content is still the same as before. Not much effort went into this, it would seem.

They never mentioned movies by name but they sure did do a good job letting kids (and their parents) know that Harry Potter is a no-no, LOTR...forget about it, and watching Twilight is like inviting the devil over for a cup of tea.

Why the term "waking up?"
by Sour Grapes inis the term "waking up" the best way to describe when a jdub starts to have doubts?
to me, it is rather that a jdub realizes that what they have believed for years was a pack of lies and then they have to make a conscious decision if they want to continue to believe in lies or stop being a jdub or just go along for the ride.. it just amazes me how many die-hard jdubs there are despite every failed prophecy about the end coming, the borg being a part of the dreaded wild best united nations, the put down of women in the borg, the massive cover-up of the child abuse in the borg, the willingness to let a child die because they need blood, and the eagerness to shun a child who at the age of 10 got dunked to make mommy and daddy happy only to not want to be a jdub later and have the parents treat them like they are dead because 8 overweight, balding, goofy looking, incoherent men in upper state new york say that are the rules for being a christain.. jehovah's witnesses are a very sad cult that attracts people with emotional, psychological, or medical issues, have very large egos, can't make simple decisions, and believe in the tooth fairy..

It's amazing what you'll realize if you just allow yourself to consider the option that WT is wrong. Once that option no longer scares you, you can read the WT and Awake and see that they are full of half truths and propaganda. That WT uses emotional manipulation to keep it's members in line. Of course, WT has trained members to never consider this option and that only cynical or hard headed ones would do so. JWs are trained to find fault in everything: politics, mainstream Christianity, charities, business, romance, holidays. Everything except WT.

Fewer Americans believe in GOD, yet they still believe in the afterlife.

Perhaps we experience consciousness again but it isn't connected to any past lives. In a sense, we have no past lives but are truly starting over. In a way it would make sense, everyday lives are being born with consciousness, who is to say we won't experience it first hand in the future. The fact that we were born as ourselves and not someone else is already one of the great mysteries of life.
