Are you Victor Meldrew ?
by wobble inthis thread is apropos nothing in particular, except to ask, does modern life get you down too ?.
for those not familiar with mr meldrew, he is from a british sit-com and is a senior citizen who gripes and complains a lot .
there is a lot more to the sit-com than that, it is quite brilliant, but that is the pertinent point.. i went on national rail's site on thursday night to ask two simple questions, what time is the first train to london from my local station around 9am, and how much were they going to sting me for a ticket.. the site was worse than useless, no way could you get an answer to simple questions like that.. at one point it asked me if i would like to take part in a customer survey, so i did, i raved and ranted and insulted all through this survey, then it asked me my gender, then my age, at this point i paused before clicking "next", i could just see in my mind the next question:.

by diamondiiz inwhat is stopping gb member from syphoning some cash to some offshore account and disappearing from brooklyn to live a good life?
i don't believe that all gb members believe all the shit found in their publications but if they could get their hands on some money couldn't they just disappear?
since ray franz has died i can't email him this sort of question.

Ray mentions later in the book about followers of followers and victims of victims. And in reality thats all they are. Like the other 7million JW's around the world they honestly believe what they teach. Why? Because it's what they were taught. Like us, they were taught not to question, so they dont, not many do. Some wake up, most dont.

Three brothers killed in plane crash in Honduras
by purplesofa inthree of our brothers reported to have died in plane crash .
from a news report published february 15, 2011:richland missionary dies in honduras plane crashflynn tomchuk was drawn to the central american country of honduras several times as a missionary for the jehovahs witness congregation in richland, most recently for a year-and-a-half on the island of roatan as a full-time minister.his father, robert tomchuk, said his son was impressed by the love the local people had for the bible and gods word.. it was in pursuit of his own passion for spreading that word that flynn tomchuk died monday at age 47.. tomchuk was one of 14 people killed when a small honduran commercial airliner crashed near the nations capital.. others among the dead were former and current senior government officials prompting the government to declare three days of national mourning and a union leader, the associated press reported.. the central american airlines plane was flying to the toncontin international airport in tegucigalpa when it crashed monday morning in las mesitas, a town about three miles south of the airport.. the cause of the crash is being investigated, but there was fog in the area at the time.
toncontin airport is considered dangerous because of its short runway and surrounding hills.. the let l-410 turbolet was carrying two pilots and 12 passengers, including rodolfo rovelo, assistant secretary for public works, jose israel salinas, a leader of the united workers federation of honduras and former economy secretary carlos chain, said airline manager felix pacheco.. im destroyed, in shock, because of what happened, pacheco told the ap.. at least 10 planes have crashed in and around the toncontin airport since october 1989, when a honduran commercial jet went down, killing 131 people.. toncontins short runway, old navigation equipment and neighboring hills make it one of the worlds more dangerous international airports.

Stuckinlimbo, I respect your effort here, but these people are going to do what ever they want no matter what evidence you show them. Just look at there history: 1914, 1925, 1975, the ever changing blood policy, the 7 times changed Generation understanding, and the list goes on and on and on and on and on.
The treat the bible as if it were their own personal book...wait, their bible is their own personal book.
Sorry Stuck, you dont stand a chance.

I am about halfway through CoC and am enjoying the book very much. However my mind keeps returning to chapter one. Ray Franz talks about the price one pays for holding to what is right. And I have never thought about it in the way he expresses it until I read that chapter.
Ray Franz was a member of the Governing Body, which in this orginazation, elevates you to God like stature. He was the nephew of the president of the WTBTS. And yet he walked away because he couldnt reconcile the Organizations teachings with the bible. He couldnt condone the way they acted with what Jesus said a Christian should conduct themselves.
Given what he left behind and the situation he found himself in after he left and was subsequently disfellowshiped, he paid a heavy price. He did not leave for money, a better job, drugs, alcohol, women, sex or any of the other countless reasons the Watchtower says people leave. He left because of exactly one thing: he had a crisis of conscience.
He went home where he had no money, no career, no education, no savings or retirment to fall back on. He left the hollywood like status of being part of the GB. Left a guarantee of a home, food, medical care, travel, etc. and went back to essentially square one.
He is demonised by the Wt and the rank and file and yet when one stops judging by the standards of the Watchtower Bibe and Tract Society there is nothing left to do but admire his courage and moral stand.

Here is the order of things for the rank and file:
1) Watchtower
2) Watchtower
3) Watchtower
4) Jehovah (so they say)
5)Jesus....Maybe he is a little high on the list?
If you want forgivness in this religion you ask the org not God.
