  The RAF have launched hundreds of air missions in Syria and Iraq with zero reported civilian casualties. Modern weapons are very expensive for humanitarian reasons. In the 1940s we would have carpet bombed ISIS territory with not a moment's thought for the ethics.

  The immense ramifications of this coup are hard to overstate

  I agree. I think we need to wait and see the political sympathies of the military leaders. President Erdogan is a dangerous man. Turkey was complicit in the sale of ISIS controlled oil and the safe passage of ISIS volunteers from Europe to Syria.

  There is a statement just out a few minutes ago that the coup is in the name of secularism.

  I agree with her conclusions that there is something contrived/artifical/made rather than natural about the process

  That's because you don't understand it. Lot's of things Kate has written on this thread shows she doesn't get it either.
