Mormon cult v JW cult
No difference.
i've taken the bible lessons but have never attended a kingdom hall.
i was curious as to what point they begin to tighten the screws of control?
let's say you're a baptist.

in recent years significant progress has been made in solving the question of how life originated on our planet.. how do you think theists will respond when it finally happens?
as a former christian i know my reaction would have been something like "well that just goes to show that it takes intelligent life to make life", but for two reasons that defense doesn't work.. firstly it would prove that life is not an ethereal force that originates with god.
there is no 'ghost in the machine', no elan vital.
I think the only principle that matters is "life begets life".
Life emerging from rocks transgresses this fundamental JW and christian doctrine.

SBF show me the quote where is explicitly says scientists might create a "LIVING cell".
Put up or shut up.

This is the bit I don't get.

I'm busy so I will explain it to you later - again.
For the moment - making all the components for a radio is a really complex task. Assembling them correctly to make a radio is also very complex.
Even if/when you succeed all you have is a box with a plug. Unless you can connect it to the electric supply it is useless.
If scientists can make all the parts of a cell and assemble them into a cell that will be astonishing. The bit they don't say in the "science" brochure for obvious reasons, is that the cell will be lifeless. Pneuma belongs to god. That is what makes it a theological impossibility.
That is why they studiously avoid stating that scientist may one day make a LIVING cell.

It also says that scientists may succeed in creating life at some point in the future. - SBF
For the fifth time no it absolutely does not.
You have repeated this lie so many times now. Why?

you are only mistaken re what witnesses say in connection with the soul/spirit. - Ruby
No I'm not. My description of what the WT teach about soul and spirit is 100% correct.
this is as it was originally, or at least at the time that paul grundy saw it, because he has this picture on jwfacts:.
this is what it says on jwfacts right now:.
watchtower articles on evolution contain a consistent pattern of poor research, such as quotes from both the january and august awake!
"Genome" by Matt Ridley is an outstandingly good read.
i got in an hour metal detecting this evening and found this almost immediately.. it is a silver penny of henry ii minted in london by "davi" between 1180 and 1189. this adds a king i didn't have in my collection.
i now have the series of henry ii - john - henry iii - edward i - edward ii - edward iii.. i now need richard the lionheart to fill in the gap.
he was the brother of john and reigned after the death of henry ii.
Hi Eden - I have to admit to knowing very little about the high-end detectors. I'm sure they are excellent. There are lots of reviews on YouTube that would be worth checking out. I use a Garrett AT-Pro which is a mid-price machine.
Be sure you have good permissions to detect on before parting with a lot of money. Remember it can take a lot of hours of detecting to find anything worth keeping. Most people who start the hobby give up in frustration. Enjoy the walk and any finds are a bonus.

why they can't just admit there is a small mistake and move on - Ruby
Because so far nobody has demonstrated any flaws in my argument.
If you can see any let me know. I don't want to be wrong any longer than necessary.
As far as "souls" go it is up to those who refer to such non-entities to explain what they mean and where their evidence is. If there are other ways of knowing that humans have something called a soul that doesn't depend on evidence then what are those ways? To just make an unfalsifiable assertion like "god gave two humanoids a soul" is to be not even wrong.
