Is the bias in this case pro or anti-English?
Neither. It lives in a "liberal" bubble.

i cannot think of a single doctrine that is so clearly laid out in the bible that every christian sect teaches the same point.
are there any doctrine where there is total consensus amongst all christian religions, including jehovah's witnesses?.
I think it is ludicrous to say JWs are not Christians because they do not accept the Trinity.
I agree.
What he rejected was the idea of "substitution"-that Christ died instead of us, that by his death Christ paid the penalty for sin for Adam's offspring.
Barbour denied that Jesus received the punishment for your sins and mine on the cross. That idea of vicarious punishment is at the heart of the Pauline version of the work of Jesus. I think that is the closest thing to an idea that is common to all christian denominations. It it usually the first one to be denied by "cults" like the Watchtower. Rutherford made the ransom to be about an Adam=Jesus legal transaction and robbed the doctrine of it's power... (puts evangelical hat off again)

Compare...
Either you know nothing about Scottish politics or you don't know what the word jingoistic means. - SBF
One of the most popular independence slogans during the referendum "Bairns Not Bombs" - SBF
As for the other slurs they are also the oppsotive of the truth. - SBF
What does oppsotive mean?
The anti-English slur is a canard
The anti-English rhetoric I witnessed constantly during the campaign was shameful.
Bunch of small-minded ignoramuses who thought that Braveheart was a documentary.

I disliked SBFs post.
The BBC produces some of the best programming in the world. Of course the news has a bias - every news source does. As a Scot I have no patience with the Nationalists jingoistic, small-minded, English-hating nonsense.

Oi Landy
Thanks for the heads-up. I will check that out.
"traumatic as the initial transition may be, it can lead to the development of a truly personal relationship with these two greatest friends [the father and the son] .
.. "whatever sense of 'belonging' that membership in some religious system may create, it can never compare with the power and beauty and strengthening benefit of the intimate personal relationship the scripture presents .
from reading joseph campbell i've come to understand that there are functions to religion or mythology.
There is no contradiction between being rational and feeling a sense of awe and wonder. It's not an either:or
Let your beliefs be commensurate with the evidence.

For instance, say a parent tells a child what to believe and the child accepts the story.
We are not children.

The taking care of itself is choosing tho
No it isn't.
Be led by the evidence, don't choose. Get your preferences and biases out the way.
It's a difficult thing to do. None of us achieve it totally.

I think we choose our beliefs. It's the only real point I'm actually arguing instead of discussing.Choosing your beliefs makes no sense. Many ex-JWs - in fact many people in general - choose their beliefs.

God being the closest word to express that awe
So god is just a metaphor for the awesome sense of wonder.
Congratulations you're an atheist.
