Actually their neutrality is not impressive it is shameful.
When JWs opted out of WWII that was morally reprehensible.
Fascism is evil. It could only be defeated through war. Chamberlain proved that beyond doubt. The moral thing to do would have been for JWs to fight against the Nazis regardless of what country they belonged to.
A meaningful comparison is not between JWs and the Christian churches of Germany, but between JWs and the Christian churches who supported the war effort against Hitler.
The churches who supported the Allies were morally superior to the cowards who hid behind neutrality.

The blood stance, I totally get it; "abstain from blood", Old and New Testament. So, JWs interpret it literally. So it is.
Is this genuine ignorance or wilful ignorance?
The shunning practice needs to be tweaked for sure. However, in many instances, this type of treatment is absolutely necessary.

I would like to be honest with all and happy to lose conditional friends but don't as my wife does not want that and I respect that she has to live with my actions as well
I totally get that - you are balancing competing moral concerns. I think in that situation you can only do all you can to support victims of the cult's oppression from within. Be the "fifth column".
Only the individual concerned can judge their own circumstances. I was surprised by DYs comment that he/she just likes to worship with JWs out of choice. I think it's worth saying that this involves a moral choice not just a decision about personal preferences.
