venus - the "god" you describe is utterly useless. It is precisely the same as no god at all.

A Korean Tragedy
by fulltimestudent inthe modern history is full of deep, dark tragedies.
and, my intention, as i sat down to write of those tragedies for a fb page i look after for a macquarie university student society, was to tell the story of these very dark contemporary events.
but east asia history is complex and i think its helpful to try to have an overview of that history to understand what has happened in the recent past.

bad relationship between North Korea’s Kim Il sung and Mao Zedong and Kruschev
I can't help with a primary source but I have read the same in Frank Dikotter's trilogy on Mao and in Paul French's book "North Korea, State of Paranoia".

The Bloody Boogeyman
by Saename inhave you ever heard a witness argue that blood transfusions are often unhealthy anyway?
it's something that they mention nearly every time to make you think... "oh, after all, it's not like jehovah's witnesses are fanatics because they deny certain medical treatments purely for the sake of the bible.
they do have medical reasons as well!".

Jumping out of an upstairs window is very dangerous. If your room is on fire and you have exhausted all other options it is the only sensible course of action.
It is deeply dishonest for JWs to refer to the medical risks of transfusions.

For me it was the '95 change in the generation and the way they treated us like idiots in the process. It led me into extensive personal study on the parousia and I discovered all our end time" beliefs were in error.
From there I researched blood and the Great Crowd. Again it turned out they had been deceitful in an effort to defend these doctrines.
Discovering their deceit was more harmful than the actual errors.

The wonder of scientific research
by amicabl inthis has possibly been brought up before however here goes.. constant reference is made by many posters to scientific research as being the only way to prove something factual that would otherwise have to be taken on faith.
there actually seems to be "faith" in scientific findings.. my experience over many years is that most scientific research is fake.
nothing oftencomes of the big announcements made to raise more money.. money, prestige, pride, human error, suppositions etc., are rife amongst the scientific community.. i realise that there have been many advances over hundreds of years but humankind is in a mess, although very different to even a century ago.. the medical profession now has vaccinations for everything, antiviral drugs etc.

amicable - Just to be clear here is the statement from your OP that resulted in a robust backlash - "most scientific research is fake".
That is an outrageous slur on a field of human endeavor that has done immeasurable good. You are right this is not a scientific forum but there are many of us here who have profound respect and admiration for science. When I left the cult 20 years ago I had a love for science but in retrospect I was woefully ignorant. I have been learning constantly ever since.
Of course our appreciation for science has to be tempered with healthy skepticism and an appreciation of the its limitations.

Actually most people died in their middle age due to all the illnesses we have today that warrant no more than a quick visit to the doctors and a short course of drugs made by those big evil pharmaceutical companies.
They also died of lots of illnesses that we have forgotten about since corrupt science eliminated them.
Please don't choose bland topics in future. Choose controversial ones and be better prepared for a factual debate.

The judge also decided that the guardianship granted to the DIF was discriminatory, arbitrary and denigrating to the minor’s parents.
The judge is mistaken. The five year old child should immediately be made a ward of court and given whatever urgent treatment her doctors deem necessary to save her life. Childhood leukemia can be treated successfully, her parent's superstitions should be dismissed without a second thought.

Shinzo Abe has won reelection in the Japanese election. Abe called the poll specifically in reaction to the threat from Pyongyang. He asked for, and has now won, a mandate to change the pacifist nature of Japan's constitution. The result is being described as a crushing victory.
Japan has a formidable military but has not fired a shot in anger since 1945. That seems to be about to change.

We are all suffering I think some sort of PTSD from cult involvement
I'm not. When I object to something said about faith or get annoyed about anti-science remarks or conspiracy theories or pseudo-science and woo-woo it has absolutely nothing to do with my history as a JW.
