Celebrating a birthday for the 1st time

after almost a year of thinking and eh feeling, not sure... i decided to throw a small birthday party for my son.

this feels so strange, i have never been to a birthday party.

my husband doesn't feel comfortable with it but he decided to play along lol.

I'm no expert on kid's party organisation but congratulations. He will love his first birthday.

I'm guessing yes to the music. I would Google kids party ideas. Fun competitive games are always a hit with boys. By next year it will feel normal. Just remember - NO beheading anybody!

firstly, i want to be crystal clear how grateful i am for jwn.

it's been my place of support for over seventeen years and it's the first online space i direct anyone to if they are taking steps out of the cult.

i am not bashing jwn - i love this place and appreciate the hard work and expense simon puts in to keep it going.

I just looked up the facts.

The current limit in the UK is 24 weeks.

According to studies between 2003 and 2005, 20 to 35 percent of babies born at 23 weeks of gestation survive, while 50 to 70 percent of babies born at 24 to 25 weeks, and more than 90 percent born at 26 to 27 weeks, survive.

Something doesn't seem right there.

differentiation between fetus and human being (this one gets murky, but what we have now in place seems reasonable)

Yes I broadly agree. I would be in favour of looking again at whether that limit should be reduced. New technologies are making premature births viable worryingly close to the cut-off for abortion.

I would be very interested in your thoughts on where we ought to draw the line Redvip. At what point does a fetus deserve protection? What is the key factor? Those are genuine questions by the way - not baiting you at all.

Helping my husband wake up, need advice.

my husband is dfed but he is a prime example of someone who was a puppet for the watchtower.

i was able to wake him a little with the sex abuse scandal.

he was an elder and is very familiar with those rules.

I want to use the Bible to help him realize that there's no such thing as a "representative of Jehovah" here on earth.

Perhaps you can get him to reflect on the inconsistency of the claims being made by the F&DS.

On the one hand they claim that they are not inspired but are being 'led' by the holy spirit and that they are imperfect and make mistakes.

On the other hand anybody who sincerely disagrees with them on a matter of substance will be accused of apostasy and DFd.

One minute submission to their teachings is a matter of life and death and the next they throw away teachings they have held for many years.

Would it be reasonable to think that if god was using a 'channel' to spread truth on the earth that they would be guilty of major errors?

Consciousness has become another convenient 'gap' in which to hide vague notions of god.

There is no reason to suppose that consciousness is anything other than an emergent property of the brain. Consciousness cannot survive anaesthesia so how does it magically exist outwith our brains?

What does that even mean?

I think to 2 slit experiment and wave collapse function when making an observation, and other such experiments that prove this point to consciousness being everything.
