I believe in a divine presence in the universe that men have called God - Truthseeker
Do you think this divine presence does anything or does it simply exist?
i'm an atheist as i do not see any evidence for the existance of a god.
i encourage critical thinking in everyone and am ready to debate anyone on whether or not there is a god and what that god might be like.

BTW belief in God it's a gift. If you don't have it then you don't have it. - Brazil
So how do you account for deconversion?
Millions of xtians persuade themselves that their beliefs are based on reason and evidence.
Belief in God it's not achieved by persuasive reasoning.
Reason is the enemy of faith.

this is self explanatory.
please if you are in a commonwealth country write /phone /fax your local member to support tr release from his current place of imprisonment.. you may not receive any reply but do so anyway.
Abaddon - A significant percentage of young Muslims in the West express regressive social opinions and demonstrate a love of fundamentalist Islamism. They are less integrated than their parents and no longer even see integration as a positive goal.
There is a division within Islam that is deepening. You are emphasising one side of the divide and ignoring the other.
The West do not have the time and patience to wait for an Islamic 'Reformation'. Neither would that be possible since Islam has no central authority in the way 16th century Christendom did.

Waton - You are describing a deist god.
A cursory glance at the unnecessary suffering he caused condemns him as a moral monster.
Zeb - the 'no atheists in a foxhole' trope is demonstrably untrue. Many atheists face death with dignity and clarity.

It’s the ultimate God of the universe I think most are interested in - SBF
So the question is whether an unknown and unknowable god exists.
A 'god' that doesn't communicate, didn't create, doesn't interfere in life in any way, doesn't answer prayer, didn't inspire any holy books, doesn't provide any moral guidance, doesn't provide any direction for living or hope for the future.
How exactly is this not identical to a god who doesn't exist?

Sorry I don't understand your comment.
You asked how atheists explain the need for humans to believe in a god. Did you read my reply?
Did you find it helpful? Do you have any questions about it?

According to YouTube the smartest man in the world says there is a God and heaven.
Isaac Newton had one of the highest IQs in human history and he was a complete dumbass when he indulged in god-talk.

You are describing a god who is identical in every practical way to a god that does not exist.
Pure sophistry.

I agree Redvip2000 however I would go a step further.
When somebody asks whether god exists I think it is a mistake to even attempt to answer the question.
FIRST the person asking the question should be obliged to define 'god'. Taken one god at a time we can state positively that he does not exist.
bible contains too much human thinking presented as though from god, thus much of its information brings dishonor to god.. yet it contains great beneficial truths behind the symbols it uses.
let us take the only two cases of miracles jesus performed without any request from anybody which would show the very purpose of his ministry:.
1) jesus healed a woman who “was bent over and could not straighten up at all.” (luke 13:11-13).
You read the bible like it's a box of fortune cookies.
