Serious Issue ....... that MUST be Addressed !!!!!
by Simon inthis is such an important issue, more and more people are succumbing to what must be some viral outbreak wreaking havoc in the world.. i'm talking about unnecessary punctuation.. it's easy to become infected.
you want to write something and add some emphasis so you add an exclamation mark to make it "important!
" but dang, it's not important enough is it??

Steven Pinker's book, A Sense of Style is an excellent guide to writing that includes common-sense advice on grammar and punctuation.

Further to TGND's comment, we tend to use single quotation marks in the UK and save double for quotes within quotes.
UK English - ‘The quality of mercy is not strained, it dropeth like gentle rain upon the earth beneath’. — Wm. Shakespeare.
US English - "One of the great things about books is sometimes there are some fantastic pictures." — George W. Bush

France's niqab ban violates human rights, UN panel says
by Richard_I inhttps://www.cbc.ca/news/world/france-ban-islamic-veil-niqab-human-rights-united-nations-1.4874465.
“the un human rights committee said tuesday that france's ban on the niqab was a violation of human rights, and it called on the government to review the legislation.. france had failed to make the case for its ban, the committee said, giving paris 180 days to report back to say what actions it had taken.
the panel's findings are not legally binding but could influence french courts.. .

In the US, I can't think of any place where it is (in general) illegal to cover your face. It may look odd, but certainly isn't illegal in itself - Sir82
It's not illegal in the UK either. However most banks, Post offices, filling stations etc do require helmets to be removed.

Imagine being told that you will never again be able to smile at another human being outside your own home for the rest of your entire life. That is is the fate of 50% of the Muslim-majority world.
THAT is a transgression of human rights!

were you listening to Cofty?
Yes I heard the whole piece. I didn't say he failed to acknowledge where they are from. He went on to say that the thing they had in common was not race or culture but the fact that they were men. He tried to support this by pointing out that the ring-leader was Indian,
In fact the one thing they have in common is that they come from cultures where treating unattached girls like whores is acceptable.

khashoggi still doesn’t deserve ... one bit of the USA’s attention - Morph
Whether Khashoggi is a friend of liberal democracy or its greatest critic is irrelevant.
Does America no longer stand for anything?

A BBC reporter on Radio 4 this evening asserted that the thing all the perpetrators have in common is that they are all men. Nothing to do with race, culture or religion.
Useful idiots!
