  His main fault was far more fundamental than that. He misunderstood human nature. All attempts to pursue utopia are not only doomed to failure but inevitably lead to dystopia.

  Stockholm syndrome and religion

  based on a discussion i had with my wife, i started to compare the situation of people who are a member of a religious organisation or are devout to a belief, to the so-called stockholm syndrome.

  the stockholm syndrome is where feelings of trust or affection is felt in many cases of kidnapping or hostage-taking by a victim towards a captor.

  in such a situation, the person being kidnapped is not free to leave and is held against their will but over time takes that situation as a "new normal" and even starts to see their kidnapper(s) as normal people.

  I think in American culture 'Liberal' has come to be synonymous with the SJW movement and Identity politics.

  Classic liberals are more about free speech, freedom of personal morality and economic freedom. At the far end of the spectrum is the Libertarian position.

  after further review and thought, i really don't see how removing a monument or statue that may be truly offensive to a large group of people is in some way rewriting history.. i think of germany or other parts of europe.

  you don't see swastikas on buildings or statues of hitler or mussolini or other upper level generals in public.

  would it be good for a person (think jewish) to drive around a city and see hitler in a public park, even though it is "historical?

  CJ - It's not a binary conversation.

  I agree with you that racism must be challenged. I also think that GF was a horrible human being who was being universally lionised in the media. I admired Cadance Owen's courage in bringing some balance.

  in many closed religious cults, sects or globally widely spread religions, sexual abuse on big scale is revealed and covered up by the religious authorities.

  in the jw, the culture is to deal with these matters within the org itself, and the rule is, "no crime can be proven without the presentation of at least two witnesses".

  men made the rules, men commit these crimes and men defend them and even forse these children to meet and talk to their abusers.
