what was the event?.
Ironically it was probably an attempt to be prepared in advance for such an epidemic that caused it.
The world outsourced the gain of function research to China who carried it out with a criminal disregard to safety.
I have not the slightest doubt that Fauci et al knew what was going on - at the very least they took a 'don't ask approach.

Or...
“We need to guard against developing a spirit of independence. By word or action, may we never challenge the channel of communication that Jehovah is using today. On the contrary, we should cherish our privilege to cooperate with the slave class.” Watchtower, November 15, 2009 p. 14
Again, the author actually means..
“You need to guard against developing a spirit of independence. By word or action, may you never challenge ME. On the contrary, you should cherish your privilege to cooperate with ME.”
This is just two of hundreds or thousands of similar quotes that demonstrate deliberate manipulation and control techniques. It is deliberate and cynical.

That might be the most naive thing I have ever read.
Every time they write abut themselves in the third person and stress the importance of obedience to 'The Faithful and Discreet Slave' they are deliberately and manipulatively controlling their members.
Can you begin to imagine the level of hubris that is required to talk about yourself in that way?
I have not the slightest doubt that their emotional and mental control, that for many JWs last years after they leave - is 100% intentional.

the penalty for eating a dead animal was washing your garments

DEATH was the penalty for disregarding the law on blood!
Having a wash was the PROCEDURE to become ritually clean. Exactly the same procedure if you buried the dead animal. Was that also a penalty?
Procedures for cleanness were also requires after having sex or giving birth. Was it a crime to make love to your spouse or give birth?
And yet the Watchtower does impose the death penalty on children!
