  john mcenroe was challenged by npr reporter lulu garcia-navarro to amend his comments about serena williams in his new book in which he rates her as the best women's player of all time.

  lulu suggested he should not call her the best "women's" player but simply the best player of all time.

  mcenroe was taken aback and explained that the men's and women's tours were very different and that serena would be around 700th on in the men's game.

  Fishy I didn't say Josephus was unreliable. The references to JC in Josephus are later additions. There are no reliable references to JC outside the bible.

  I'm not sure they didn't matter but they were secondary. I think this is something that is often missed.

  To "follow" Jesus did not mean to read books about him and sing hymns as it does today. For Peter it meant to literally walk away from his wife and his business and trek around Galilee and Judea with the itinerant Messiah. Since Jesus promised that it would all be over within their generation this radical response to Jesus must have seemed not unreasonable.

  It is impossible to avoid the conclusion that he was a false prophet, a cult leader and a destroyer of family relationships.

  Good points TD. Barbour was the inventor of the chronology. To be more precise he "corrected" the eschatology of Wm Miller after "The Great Disappointment" of 1844.

  If I remember rightly 1799 was also part of the picture. I think it was the beginning of the Last Days as manifested by the French Revolution.
