Blatant strawman.
My position about the origin of the cosmos is simple - I don't know.
My position on the supernatural is that it is nothing but a placeholder.
All the burden of proof is with the merchants of woo.
i believe in rational explanations for everything, whether they are understood yet or not.
medication used to be considered 'magic' until understood how it worked.
on the subject of telepathy, for me it's very subtle but has happened many times.

The burden of proof is on those who claim there is a factual basis for 'supernatural' events.
Attempts to uncover objective evidence has so far failed 100% of the time. It is not open-minded to reserve judgement on the supernatural. It is obtuse not to be deeply skeptical.
By the way, the mystery of why there is something rather than nothing is not the topic. The 'something' operates by consistent laws. Admittedly we don't fully understand those laws but that doesn't leave room for woo-woo.

Confirmation bias, selective memory and embellishment after the fact.
Intuition is nothing more than the way our brains subconsciously take short-cuts through data we already have available.
Read 'Unweaving the Rainbow' by Richard Dawkins for a useful treatment of the subject.
in the image you can see what jw wrote about how galileo was treated by the catholic church.
now they are disfelloshipping me because i believe the earth is flat.
is this coherent?.
It does indeed say the earth is flat. Yet another example of why it is silly to organise your life around the ramblings of Iron Age goat herders.
Join us in the 21st century.

JWs believe some of the most stupid ideas ever invented but even they have their limits.
You are too gullible even to be a JW.
i had a fair bit of fun giving my first ever post-jw religious sermon.
so i asked rev.
andy if he would like me to deliver another.
Thank you for sharing that. I will watch it later.
IMO it is the subject of 'grace' that separates JWs from the christian faith.
my intro essay for the new book caused all sorts of off blog controversy.
my writing partner, a retired educator and a witness, responded.
why aren't more witness men like this?
That's sexist thinking. It's typical of a certain class of Witness male
It is indeed. The word 'subjection' is central to their ideas about relationships between men and women. In reality they don't just apply it between husband and wife. I wonder if it takes born-in wives some time to get over that indoctrination. Might be a useful thread?

I take it your writing partner has been getting some ‘get your woman under control’ emails?
That is very typical JW behaviour.
so much is said regarding men , in a negative way.
shaving commercials are now lecturing us as to how bad we really are.
men should be less masculine.
I find the extreme reactions to some of these issues interesting. Why are some men and some women extreme in their reactions to these issues. - FTS
I haven't seen any extreme reactions in this thread. I have seen a lot of misrepresentation of what a lot of men ACTUALLY said.

FTS - The genetic component in determining our personalities, talents and interests is huge. Of course culture does play a part in shaping our attitudes and beliefs - our personality not so much. Also it is true that a child can be permanently damaged by harmful parenting.
The good news is that children will pretty much become what they were always going to be as adults as long as parenting is 'good enough'. The trend for excessive parental micromanaging of their offspring is a fool's errand.
