  Climate Change - True Believer or Skeptic?

  climate change ... who doesn't believe it?

  crazy fools and science deniers ... right?.

  it seems like it's become the new religion, the new orthodoxy, that must be accepted and believed as gospel and preached to all.. is it ok to be skeptical?.

  The climate has changed many times in the history of earth. The difference this time is that the additional factor of human activity is pushing the change further and faster than ever before.

  I think there have been examples of fear-mongering, exaggeration, dishonesty and opportunism. However that doesn't change the underlying fact that we are in trouble.

  The thing that annoys me is the way that we are guilt-tripped into making the most trivial changes 'to save the planet' when the real causes are elsewhere. China and India make our contribution to global warming look insignificant. Sometimes it feels like turning up to help after an tsunami with a dustpan and brush.

  the Palestinian people have been systematically mistreated because of the creation of this modern, unique nation of Israel.

  To be fair the best place on earth to be a Palestinian is inside Israel.

  It was the 1948 Arab-Israeli war where a coalition of Arabs tried — and failed miserably — to push Israel back into the sea that set the scene for decades of conflict.

  Don't you think a people who had recently suffered attempted genocide because of their heritage had a strong case to identify as a nation?

  Remember too that they did not just suffer at the hands of the Nazis. Russia had its own pogroms and many other European countries cooperated with the Holocaust. Historically Jews have been persecuted all over the world simply because of who they were.

  It is the ultimate irony if millions of Jews were annihilated because racists identified them as belonging to a nation but then they are not allowed to do so.

  my first post - born in but faded 15 years ago before that i was pimo for a number of years.. to put it bluntly the whole jw religion/thing is a crock of shit.

  Toby — If you have only been on the forum for a very short time how come you feel qualified to make all those judgements about somebody you know nothing about?

  I've been here 9 years and made 23,000 posts. In that time I have criticised left wing politics many times. Some of my threads are about the excesses of the regressive left. But I refuse to join a tribe. When idiots like you behave this way I won't shut up just because I agree with your basic premise. You are an ignorant buffoon.

  There are many thoughtful and intelligent people on both sides of every debate. Unless we listen with respect we will learn nothing.

  I am prepared to bet that in 10 years time you will be no better informed than you are now. When you left the cult you did the organisation a big favour.
