I got a visit in hospital the first time. Then when it looked like my demise was no longer imminent that was the last I heard from anyone.

Upon learning of a terminal illness would you return to being a JW to appease your family?
by NVR2L8 inthis is an hypothetical question...i am doing well.
but i was thinking about how my jw family, grandchildren and all will feel when their inactive grandfather dies with no hope of being reunited in paradise.
of course there would be immediate rejoicing if i came back to the "truth" and a surge of conditional love from the "friends".

When the Vietnam War was raging, young people demonstrated against it. They were maligned, made fun of, mischaracterized, and treated with disdain...much like Greta is being treated here by some posters. - Sparky
Yes but they were so much cooler in the 60s.

Been there - twice - survived (so far)
Going anywhere near that cult mentality was never further from my mind.

So then from viewpoint blood could be transfused from a person if the giver had died naturally ?
Eh?
blood taken from a living being is therefore not sacred, it’s just a non issue
Bingo

The confusing part is can blood remain sacred in the eyes of god when blood is transfused to another, as an attempt to save the person’s life since human life is sacred ?
No there is no mandate for that view anywhere in scripture.
Israelites could eat unbled meat (sustain their lives to use WT phraseology) with impunity as long as the life of the animal was not taken by another human.

theoretically the blood during a BT can remain sacred in its use
Surely it is the exact opposite?
Nobody dies to donate blood therefore the donated blood has no sacred significance.
In the same way blood extracted from a live animal has no sacrificial value.

The old Hebraic law of abstaining of blood was specifically handed out as a dietary law
I disagree.
JWs also disagree and if we are going to help them to reason on blood transfusions it is more useful to find as much common ground as possible.
1. Blood was sacred under The Law.
2. Blood represents life.
3. It was a capital offense to use blood for any purpose other than to offer it as a sacrifice on the altar.
4. All of the restrictions about blood are just as binding on Christians as they were on OT Jews.
It doesn't matter if you agree with all four of these points or not. They believe them, and we can concede all of them and start from there.
The key point is this...
Blood is only sacred insofar as it represents a life that has been taken

Proportional Representation vs Electoral Collages
by Simon inthe craziness of first-past-the-post elections .... we'll no doubt have to now live through the scotts demanding another referendum, because we may take their lands, but we will never take their freedom!
and so they want to be free of the uk, where they have a disproportionate influence in parliament, and be a little dot that's part of the eu.
yup, freedom.. but anyway, as it stands right now they have 48 seats after getting 1.2m votes.

It will be very interesting to see the next opinion poll for independence
YouGov poll just out a few days ago = 44%
Once the UK leaves the EU at the end of next month an independent Scotland would be stranded outside the EU with a huge deficit and no chance of getting back into Europe without agonising austerity measures to balance the economy.
It will be interesting to see if Big Eck's criminal trial for multiple charges of rape will taint the image of the SNP
