How would you have avoided it Boogy?
One nursing home I heard about has made all their staff stay onsite for weeks. Good effort but simply impossible for most workers who have families.
PPE is in international short supply with millions of items required by NHS daily and many products by new manufacturers having to be destroyed for not meeting safety standards.
A virus LOVES an environment like a care home and many residents of care homes are very fragile with comorbidities. Care home workers are not trained in strict barrier nursing like nurses are and the homes are not set up for that anyway. It's inevitable - as demonstrated all over the world - that there will be huge numbers of deaths in care homes.

Nursing homes are massively profitable private enterprises. Some owners have been exemplary others have failed.
Nursing homes are obviously going to be epicentres of infection. It's not clear what exactly ought to have been done.
Boris' plan for easing restrictions seems sensible. Outside work now, shops open within 3 weeks and restaurants a month after that.
did anyone catch michael palin's travel documentary in north korea?
it was a fascinating insight into such a secretive and controlled country.
totalitarian, suppressed and yet i found a few similarities to jw mentality.. particularly, this segment, where michael asks his handler about the limitations on freedom she has.
Very apt comparison.
I have read some history of Cold War era Eastern Europe. The WT definitely fits the pattern of totalitarian regimes.

devolved powers & laws are one thing, but a national crisis/emergency situation overrides devolved administrations - Booger
No it doesn't.
London cannot dictate to the other governments of the UK in matters that are devolved. Do you really think Scotland or NI would stand for their devolution settlements being ripped up without the consent of the majority of the respective populations? That would be the road to breaking up the UK permanently.

Hardly Boris' fault that Nicola is posturing to her independence audience. There are areas of law that are devolved to the four countries of the UK. There is absolutely nothing Boris can do if they decide to do their own thing.
Scotland will follow England's lead with a small lag.
I live ten minutes from the Scottish border. Can you imagine the traffic heading south to Berwick garden centre next week!

The community spirit and resolve that Brits have shown during this crisis has been very much in the same character as our forebears.
100 year old Captain Tom Moore did 100 laps of his garden and Britain responded by donating £32 million to NHS charities.
The royal family has been an asset as a focal point for national unity. We can criticise the government without being unpatriotic in a national emergency.

Today is the 75th anniversary of the end of WII in Europe. They were a special generation who were literally prepared to give their lives rather than submit to fascism. Millions paid the ultimate price. They died so we could live in freedom. For two years Britain and the Commonwealth stood alone in a war it could not hope to win. Russia had signed a non-aggression pact with Hitler and America remained neutral until 1941. America's later contribution to the war was decisive but if Britain had not held the line there would have been no Europe as we know it today.
Of course the war didn't end until the surrender of Japan in August 1945 but May 8th 1945 saw the biggest party Britain has ever seen. Even the princesses Elizabeth and Margaret slipped out of Buckingham Palace to dance the night away with the crowds.
Britain has been celebrating as best it can under current circumstances. Never forget.
does anyone have wts quotations showing that the great crowd members will only be declared righteous and receive everlasting life at the close of the millennium?.
WT 1 December 1985 p17 par.16-20 Declared Righteous as a Friend of God
The “great crowd,” who survive the “great tribulation,” are not already declared righteous for life. We can see this from the fact that the chapter that mentions them goes on to say: “The Lamb, who is in the midst of the throne, will shepherd them, and will guide them to fountains of waters of life.” (Revelation 7:17) So, even though God previously counted them as righteous compared to mankind in general and as his friends, they need additional help, or steps to be taken, so that they can be declared righteous for life.
During the Millennium, the enthroned Lamb, Christ Jesus, together with his 144,000 associate kings and priests, will apply a program of spiritual and physical “curing of the nations.” (Revelation 22:1, 2) Such “nations” will be made up of the survivors of the great tribulation, any children born to them after Har–Magedon, and those who come back in the “resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Acts 24:15) All who put faith in Christ’s blood and accomplish appropriate “deeds” will eventually have their names written in “the book of life.”—Revelation 20:11-15.
By the end of Christ’s Millennial Reign, those of earth’s inhabitants who have shown that they accept Christ’s ransom and will live by Jehovah’s standards will have been raised to perfection. (Revelation 20:5) They will be as Adam was before he sinned. Like him, they will be tested as to their obedience.
Immediately after the Millennium, Christ will hand over to his Father a perfect human race. (1 Corinthians 15:28) “Satan will be let loose” for a decisive test of mankind. (Revelation 20:7, 8) The names of any who fail under test will not be “found written in the book of life.” They will symbolically be “hurled into the lake of fire,” which “means the second death.”—Revelation 20:15; 21:8.
Those who prove loyal to Jehovah will have their names indelibly written in the “book of life,” as being perfect in integrity and worthy of the right to everlasting life on earth. Jehovah himself will then declare them righteous in the complete sense.
