Research paper on Effects of Shunning
by peacefulpete inafter being around this site for 21 years now, i've heard many recount their stories and feelings.
many times i can immediately relate but other times they seem to have had a very different experience with the church.
i'm sure that is because not only are all of us different in personality, but congregations and family dynamics vary as well.

My Explanation of Why They Got it Wrong About Blood Using Only the NWT
by cofty in10 " any israelite or any alien living among them who eats any bloodi will set my face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from his people.
12 therefore i say to the israelites, "none of you may eat blood, nor may an alien living among you eat blood.
15 'anyone, whether native-born or alien, who eats anything found dead or torn by wild animals must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be ceremonially unclean till evening; then he will be clean.

the penalty for eating a dead animal was washing your garments
Does that sound to you like the penalty for a crime?
DEATH was the penalty for disregarding the law on blood!
Having a wash was the PROCEDURE to become ritually clean. Exactly the same procedure if you buried the dead animal. Was that also a penalty?
Procedures for cleanness were also requires after having sex or giving birth. Was it a crime to make love to your spouse or give birth?
And yet the Watchtower does impose the death penalty on children!
Come on you are more intelligent than to fall for that facile reasoning - surely!
Kill and eat an animal unbled and YOU DIE
Eat an animal found already dead and YOU WILL HAVE A BATH

Another Tidbit regarding Acts 15
by peacefulpete inacts 15 has an interesting backstory (and textual history) that has been touched on elsewhere so here i will only say, the purpose of the section, and much of the book, is to re-envision the history of the early days of xtianity.
the deep schisms, (some might say even different origins) are made to appear superficial and inconsequential.
this theme contiues with the choice of two 'prophets' from jerusalem traveling back to antioch to share with paul and barny, named judas (yes another one) and silas.

Very interesting. I find textual criticism fascinating. Bart Ehrman's lectures on Great Courses are worthwhile.
As JWs we were woefully ignorant of the history of the text.

Thanks will listen to it this evening. Jewish rabbis often make more sense than Christian preachers. They seem to at least have more epistemic humility.

Salvation: Faith alone OR works?
by JW Answers injehovah's witnesses run to the book of james staying that faith without works is dead.
they completely ignore the teachings of paul and hold onto james.
.. it would appear that there is a contradiction between james' teaching and paul's teaching, yet the bible tells us to rightly divide the word of truth.

Punkofnice - or the abusive husband who beats his wife shouting 'look what you made me do to you'.

Then he had to go through the ordeal of a ritual (mikveh) and that wasn’t easy either.
Have a bath & change your clothes - done.
Kill and eat an animal unbled and YOU DIE
Eat an animal found already dead and YOU WILL HAVE A BATH
How can you return the life of the animal to god if you didn't kill it? This is why there was no penalty. It's so bloody obvious! Countless children have died because of the stubborn dogmatism of people like you.

The Mosaic law states that the Israelites were not allowed to eat dead animals or one torn
The Law says the EXACT OPPOSITE.
The 'penalty' was take a bath.
And yet you would prefer a child dies.

When you say you have answered my challenge you are being intellectually dishonest. To put it bluntly you are lying for Jehovah.
By defending the indefensible you are collectively guilty of the death of countless innocent children who were sacrificed on the altar of ignorance and blind obedience to a cult. You can no more defend your dogma than the old men who invented it can.
Don't you dare tell me there was an answer in 1954 that you can't/won't share.
“the soul is in the blood”
WRONG!
Kill and eat an animal unbled and YOU DIE
Eat an animal found already dead and YOU WILL HAVE A BATH
Answer the challenge.
