Do you feel like an idiot?Should you?
by sleepy ini was thinking today about all the time i spent on the ministry.. walking down the street with my suit and briefcase ready to defend the truth.. i recalled some of the conversations i had , had.some of the bible studies i conducted, the talks i had given the groups i had taken.. i remmebered the way i defended my faith and belief in jehovah and the jehovahs witness organisation.. how much i must have believed it was the truth.. i spent 3 years as an auxillary pioneer and called on many thousands of people.. yet all along i was wrong.. every time i defened my beliefs i was wrong.. every talk i studied and prepeared long and hard for, i was wrong.. all the things i gave up for the truth i was wrong.. what an idiot.

Voice your opinion- Organised religion.
by jerome inmy main problem with organised religion is when totalitarianism comes into play.
thats when you get institutions like the catholic church in its earlier years.
that should never be allowed.. jerome

I think that I should mention something. This thread has very little to do with the Jehovah's Witnesses. Very little at all.The JW are not generally recgonised as a valid religion. They are normally excluded from any discussion pertaining to Christianity in general. There is nothing about the to critisize in this instance because you cannot make a valid comparison between pseudoChristianity and the real thing. How can you critize an instutition and not even get the facts straight about what the institusion is really about? How does everything to do with organised religion get bad simply because of the JWs when they are so irrelavant. In other words thiss isnt a look at the JWs thread because they arent validated by christianity. If anything they should only be mentioned when discussing the fact that pratically anyone can say that they were appointed by God and that you must follow them to recieve salvation.
Just thought that I should say that.
Now you may continue to express your views on organised religion.

On first thought I dident know how you even managed to draw the comparison between crime and religion in the first place but on reviewing the corelation it is a valid point in certain circumstances.
You asked me to clarify... well here I go
Organised crime is never beneficial to the society as a whole. It never contributes anything without taking at least several times what it has given. Crime doesnot serve to build the society but only to tear it down. My point is the pros are definately outweighed by the cons.
Organised religion on the other hand has its ups and downs. It can build but it caan also break. Much as a nail gun can be used for carpentary in the right hands but in the wrong hands it can be a lethal weapon. My point is organised religion is not always harmful but in the wrong hands can be extremly detrimental.
Therefore I stated that :
Organised Crime is always bad.
while
Organised Religion is sometimes bad.

I cant rember the correct name of that fallacy but your using it right now.
So i'll call it the "either or" fallacy.
This argument cannot be be brought down to such simple terms because there are pros and cons to be weighed. The any conclusion drawn from this discussion will not absolute.
