The Great Apostasy

hello - my bro [and many others] often speak of how the true teachings of jesus and the apostles were corrupted and as one poster recently wrote 'since then, the catholic church has been forcing the trinity down our throat'.

is there any evidence to support the great apostasy?

I was wondering the same thing.

How can you apostasize (apostatize?) from a "religion" that was never really a "religion" to begin with?

Often, when my brother [he's JW, I'm a Catholic,] doesn't like a comment or question, he will say or ask something rather indecipherable that has you just scratching your head. I wonder if that is some watchtower taught trick he pulls.

The 1st question that I asked is about any proof of an apostasy.

The standard answer of 'yes, just look around' doesn't answer any questions.

One major problem with the belief of Christiandom having a great apostasy is this. The bible cannon [the bible in your Kingdom hall] was accepted through [3] various counsels starting around 187ad, 387ad and 392ad [sorry, these dates may be a decade off or so]. If the apostasy was well under way by the time the apostles died, then why would you have any faith in scripture at all? It just doesn't make any sense, does it?

they pick out disparate unrelated verses and combine them to support the wackiest of wacky doctrines.. on the other hand there are many scriptures they almost never address, whether because they contradict wt doctrine or because they simply don't have a clue what they mean or how to spin them to the wt advantage.. one of these is revelation 19:1 that mentions a "great crowd" "in heaven.

Plankton- You still never addressed this one. Not only does the Watchtower ignore this one, they flat out deny it. Ofcourse this is the evidence that Jesus himself claimed to be God. John 8;58 confirms this fact.

John chap8:verse58 correctly translated has Jesus quoted 'before Abraham came to be, I AM' The Watchtower NWT changes the scripture to read 'before Abraham came into existence, I have been'

That is a change by the Watchtower to cover up Jesus's use of the 'I AM' title used by God in Exodus 3:14. In the Greek Septuagint the Watchtower interprets ego eimi as I am in Exodus 3 :14. In the gospel of John, the Watchtower interprets ego eimi as 'I am 'everytime except John 3;16.

Of course Jesus was claiming to be God. That's why the Jews with him wanted to stone him.

Ignoring, no, more like denying scripture, doncha think?

Dialogue on the Name "Jehovah"

god only has one name jehovah.

(it was removed from the original bible in 7000 places).

What you should have done is show that the name Jehovah was first recorded from the 13th century C.E. Raymundus Martini [a spanish monk from the Dominican Order]. He used it in his book 'Pugeo Fidei' in 1270. Hebrew scholars favor 'Yahweh' as the most likely pronunciation. That is from Aid to bible understanding [1971 pgs 884-885]

That if proof enough that Jehovah is not God's name.

Then ask how the name came to be - [It is a hybrid of the YHWH with vowels added from Adonai{Lord}].

Jehovah is a false name. It is not God's name. The Jews [then and now] didn't dare try to even speak his name. If they ever did, it certainly wasn't Jehovah.

What would Jesus Christ say if he returned today?

this was always one of the main justifications for me in leaving the wt behind.

i was just wondering how many of you have ever reasoned in the same way.. i have often wondered how jesus christ would react if he came back to the earth now and how he would view the organisation who claim to represent his standards?.

would jesus really want to be associated with paedophilia, false prophecies, shunning, the destruction of families, lies, untruths, hypocritical leaders and the lack of love amongst members?.

Jesus was an obedient Jew and followed the laws of the day. He would not dine on swine. That came after through 'apostalic deposit'.
