Examples of Bias/Discrepancies in the New World Translation

to be fair, translating the bible is a huge undertaking, and in doing so, there are bound to be mistakes, or even limits to a committee's knowledge.

obviously, we cannot read the hearts of the four translators of the new world translation committee to know when they consciously or subconsciously altered renderings in to support doctrinal bias.

but more and more, i do come across things that feel askew to me.

Translations are translation and not versions. A translation is to be one person translating what another person has written in any language. When a translator takes liberty in a written word and interprets his/or her own slant on any particular writing. The subject matter stops being a translation and starts being a version.

The examples of bias in the NWT are so gross that most scholars scoff at the concept of it even being a translation. The fact that no [other] organization [aside from the WTS] speaks huge volumes about the translation. The fact that scholar after scholar discounts the version as not worth mentioning speaks volumes also. If it was close to what the WTS stated about it, it would be used by others. Simply stated, no one else uses it.

The examples of bias are well documented on this site and others. It is corrupted and there is no denying that fact when comparing it to every other translation. Words added that were not intended from the authors. Words changed to mean something other than the writers meant prevents the NWT from being a translation.

The most famous examples include colossians 1; 16 because by means of him all [other] things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, no matter whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All [other] things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all [other] things and by means of him all [other] things were made to exist,

The word 'other' is added to 4 times in these 2 verses and changes what would discribe Jesus from uncreated and eternal to created.

Just one of many examples.

Good point Terry. I am assuming that you are speaking about no original manuscripts available. It certainly would be inspirational to view the original writings of Moses.

So, what are we left with? How about the oral tradition? You may know that the ancient Jews didnt have any scriptures in their homes. They only HEARD the scriptures at the synagogs. Them learned men would commit these teachings to the parchment..... Just like the early Christians.... After that, it must be taken on faith. Faith that God would protect his word from corruption. guided by the Holy Spirit. That's why people of faith hold that the Gospels of Mark, Luke, John and Mathew are legit and the Gospels of Judas, Mary and Peter are not.

And let's be real. Anyone who refers to the bible as the true word of God does so because God has given him that faith. It is indeed a gift.

I mean, who else would believe such nonsense?!.....besides these crazy posters [including myself] that is.

Not to do with any trinity discussion, just the divinty of Jesus question.

There's more than once scripture proving the Jesus's deity imo. One of the biggest to me is found in the old testament.

NWT-IS 9; 6 For there has been a child born to us, there has been a son given to us; and the princely rule will come to be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

Now I think that because there are so many ancient manuscripts of the OT, that it is impossible for the thousands of copies to all be corrupted identically to distort the divinty of Jesus.

Another big one to me is found in John 20;28 when Thomas says to Jesus 'My Lord and my God' which in Greek is "Ho Kurios mou kai ho Theos mou" which is literally translated as Thomas says to Jesus 'The Lord of me and the God of me'. Jesus, being perfect would have corrected Thomas if he were wrong, but instead accepts his profession of faith. Another biggie to me

Psalm 102; 25 Long ago you laid the foundations of the earth itself,
And the heavens are the work of your hands.

Contrast that with Hebrews 1;10 10 And: “You at [the] beginning, O Lord, laid the foundations of the earth itself, and the heavens are [the] works of your hands.

Now, the noted psalm verse is speaking of God and the noted hebrew's verse is speaking of Jesus.

Along the same lines, more scriptural proof is found in

Jeremiah 17; 10 I, Jehovah, am searching the heart, examining the kidneys, even to give to each one according to his ways, according to the fruitage of his dealings.

Contrast that with Revelation 2; 23 And her children I will kill with deadly plague, so that all the congregations will know that I am he who searches the kidneys and hearts, and I will give to YOU individually according to YOUR deeds.

Of course the old and new testament are abound with scriptural proofs, but the alas, it is not easy to change beliefs that have been driven home over and over and over again.

Jesus is credited for creating the world, forgiving sins, giving eternal life, having a kingdom that goes on forever, yet his divinty is so often denied that even these texts will prove nothing to those who do not want to believe. Incidently, all scriptural examples I posted are from the NWT version.
