That's not intirely true. You can disagree all you want and your won't get disfellowshipped. A judicial committee is formed when you start preaching your beliefs publically and causing divisions within the congregation.
Nope, I know personally of situations where people questioned doctrine privately w/ elders & were DF'd, ask some of the x-elders on this board.

It is just an assumption based on the history of the Organization.
THANK YOU!! Most of what the JW's spout is exactly that, NOT "prophesy" or "truth", & yet, if you are one, you are required to act as if it is, because the org. is "sprit directed". If you disagree, you are DF'd, & not allowed to see your family, all because of "assuptions". "What we believe" "New light". "Tacking". So, in escence, you are punished horribly over what someone "thinks" not knows. Its double-speak. The dubs tell you over & over that the org. is'nt a "prophet". If it is'nt, why the hell should we listen? And subject ourselves to shunning? If it IS, why are they "misunderstanding"? You just can't have it both ways, SoJ. Apply the same logic to say, the mormons, & you'd have no problem calling it b.s. You're talking in circles, & I am seriously concerned about your cognitive skills.

an update on bill bowen & his meeting with the wt.....this is an eyeopener and a disgrace on the watchtower:.
i am sitting here looking out the tenth floor window of my watchtower paid for room at the manchester holiday inn.
the events of the day before are difficult to comprehend as i reflect on what happened.
What I think a lot of us fail to realize( myself included, sometimes ) is that this struggle is'nt just about Bill Bowen, or Ray Franz, or any one person. If Bill were to die today, this would still be happening. The door is open, there are dozens of attorneys & hundreds of people suing the wts. Bill has done a lot. HE continues to do a lot. Instead of ripping on him every time his name comes up, let's think about what WE can do to stop the abuse of innocent children. If you don't thnk the wts should be sued at all, & that they are in the right, go to this sites child abuse section & read the stories. Check out other sites. But to just sit on high and criticise Bill or Ray & not be doing anything yourself is just silly & really accomplishes nothing.

my 13 year old daughter was pretty close to my jw parents when we left.
i cut off ties last year because of my mom's intrusive behaviour with my daughter.
Also, I work with developmentally challenged adults... the key is not to treat people as idiots, even if they are kids. It's not a nice thing to do; if they can be explained something and can understand it, then they should know the truth - end of story.

People may think my opinion is harsh on this matter. And if you do decide to let her hang out, please do so w/ maximum supervision. HAving been on the recieving end, I am grateful to my mom, however, My granddad was a crook & also violent, though everybody in his cong. thought he was the best guy ever. This may not be the same in your case. I still feel it is'nt a good idea, see garybuss' post above, why risk it? It was very hard, & I know it killed my mom to do it, but I see this as one of her best parenting decisions ever.

Shamus, just curious, are you a parent? I am seriously curious, & no sarcasm is intended.
IMHO, & the opinion of many other childcare professionals, if your parents won't talk too you, they don't talk to your kids, period. It's just too confusing & damaging too your kids, especially because they shun you over something as dumb as religion. There is very little difference between jw's & taliban, just a matter of degree if anything.
