  charter schools, typically can do a better job on a fraction of the unionized public school system. This is the uncomfortable fact that Obama pays lip service to but politically is in a corner with another giant union breathing down his neck. The losers are the kids being churned out of public schools with third world educations.

  The union teachers are well paid and get Cadillac benefits and pensions. Every election, local, state and national puts more funding for public education at the top of the list. They appreciate the money. The kids don't learn to read, etc. so that on graduation they can get a job or go to a community college.

  This is a shameful, rotten system. In Detroit,MI, Stockton, Ca, Jefferson County, Ala. Orange County Ca. San Bernardino, Ca. ad infinitum, the public employees unions have been a major part in the raping of the taxpayers with not even a kiss on the back of their neck. Illiterate kids being graduated that cannot read? " You cheap bastards didn't pay enough!"

  I don't think blanket statements like that are helpful. Treated differently at every level?

  The trouble with making claims that go too far are that for some they can be discredited and dismissed.

  No one needs to exaggerate ... doing so weakens legitimate claims of unfairness.

  Seeing racism in everything and everyone diminishes the genuine hurt caused.

  Respectfully Simon, in what venue are they not treated differently? Please leave out entertainment and sports, because all who are successful are treated differently there.

  I think GZ was trying so hard to help. He mentored kids.

  Good grief. Maybe it's time you actually look at the evidence and history of that man instead of just swallowing the image provided to you by his lawyers. This is about the President's comments, Trayvon Martin is one among thousands of young black men who have been profiled to death, much less those who have "only" been profiled to jail, hopelessness, or hospitals.

  Violia, you have been told over and over again, by those who are directly affected. Why do you feel like you know better?

  Poverty and lack of education, lack of hope or even a vision of something better, are huge issues not only in this country but around the world. But this IS a black thing. They are treated differently, on every level, and there is mounds of evidence to prove it. Why can't you hear/see???

  Well...this case sure seems to have brought a lot of underlying issues in society to the surface.

  Wow, that Russia Today article completely overblows what few protests there were. There's far more destruction at a Soccer match or when a local sports team wins.

  One thing I found inspiring, was that the protests were diverse groups of people. Black, White, Asian etc., all standing together as can be seen in photos and videos. This wasn't about race as much as about justice.

  I do wonder what Obamas involvement in this was. Why was he fanning the flames on this issue?

  I find it absolutely amazing that the bulk of "evidence" is from the defendants own mouth, and yet it is being accepted as fact.

  Why didn't TM have scratches or DNA on his hands if he was involved in such a "beat down" as one poster put it? How can it be considered self defense when the injuries were so minor as to not even need medical attention until the next day, belying the notion that he felt his very lfe was threatened? Why did the screams for help end at the exact moment of the gunshot? If Zimmerman was on the ground when he shot Martin who was allegedly on top beating his head in, why wasn't Martin's blood all over the front of Zimmerman?

  Again, this sets a horrible precedent. I can assume you look suspicious, follow you for no reason other than my own delusions, yet if you feel threatened and confront me, I can shoot you dead and walk away free.

  It's no wonder the Prosecution in their closing arguments begged the jury to use their common sense.
