It is very popular in the US with Christian Fundamentalists. It's simply continued brainwashing. If your "teacher" (mom) does not believe in evolution, or whtever else, then they will do the lessons accordingly. I worked at a public library and saw many of them. Sad, and frankly frightening. The next generation will have none of the critical thinking skills, variety, respect for diversity, etc. etc. etc. It's a losing situation not only for the child, but society in general.

Atheism = self defeating.
by towerwatchman inatheism = self defeating.
first may we define our terms.
the word atheism comes literally from the greek, alpha the negative and theos [for god], therefore “negative god” or there is no god.

Simon, you have hit the nail squarely on the head.

"Even if a grant you that ‘a’ means ‘without’ we have not come to the conclusion that Atheism means ‘without belief in God’. What is negated in the word is ‘God’ not ‘belief’. In the etymology of the word there is no concept of belief. We can go as to meaning ‘a universe without God’ which is another way of saying ‘God does not exist’ , affirming the non existence of God"
No, it's pretty simple. Without god. Not having god. That's all atheism is. You are apparently trying to turn it into a belief that there is no god. A believer will say "I believe there is an invisible table in the middle of that room." A nonbeliever will simply say it's an empty room. They would not say "I absolutely do not believe there is a table in this room".

"Pizzagate is another example. I find it difficult to research because of the nature of the allegations; however, anyone who researches it, reads the e-mails and the FBI and NYPD background knows there's something to it. When I hear people in the media dismiss it, I know they've either failed to read the info or they're most likely complicit in it."
Ohhhh I thought you were serious for a minute there!! Now I know you are just having us on. Good one.

Etymology
The words "atheism" and "atheist" originated from the Ancient Greek word "ἄθεος"4 ("átheos") meaning "without deities" without any direct or implied anti-theistic (or anti-religious) connotation, for it was impartial in its initially intended use. http://www.defineatheism.com/etymology/

Why are Republican's so consistantly dishonest?
by Coded Logic init hasn't gone unnoticed that the republicans who are saying, "we need to get to the bottom of the obama wiretapping" and "let's investigate this" - are the same people, when it comes to trump's russian ties, who are saying, "we shouldn't look at this at all - it's just a bunch of lies and hype.".
no evidence whatsoever for claims about obama need a congressional investigation.
but mountains of evidence about trump with more coming out everyday can be swept under the rug.

I haven't had a chance to read the whole thread, so excuse me if I'm stepping on another commenter.
I believe it's because they currently work for the ultra rich and corporations. This was not always so, but it most certainly is now. They answer to no one, and they have their constituents utterly in the fold. There are buzz words and tones, and boom off they go. But actually it's always about funneling more to the top. The Democrats are essentially everyone else. Not nearly as cohesive. Not nearly so monied. The GOP lie, because they can. Only the rank and file can demand honesty, and they won't because they've been groomed to hate "the other" and buy into the narrative.
They are so consistently dishonest because it works.

Why is Trump so effective???
by Coded Logic ini think trump is an absolute idiot.
his tactics, however, are undeniably effective.
thought i'd just put together a short list of some of the things he does.

"And what would you base that on? Forget Trump for a second, a lot of the nonsense in place that he is using or abusing was put there by the "Giver" American left. I think everyone is terrified of Trump for breaking down government not increasing its overreach. I do believe many want to live in that controlled "utopia" where harm is reduced because people just can't be trusted. Not me".
Are you keeping up with current events? This administration is exactly overreaching. He is not breaking down government, and frankly anyone who says I want a job in government so I can break it down is selling snake oil. You may not realize, but the government is actually supposed to by employed by we the people, and would be if everyone was informed and engaged. What's wrong with giving? We are the boss. The only difference between right and left, is that the right gives to the top, and the left works to give to the people. Since Reagan they've convinced those on the right to work against their own interests, and for the actual elite. The top one or point one percent.

Trump has been so effective, because he appeals to baseness. To hate and nastiness. We've been steadily shaming such crude base behavior over the last many decades. But with this ass, that baseness has been legitimized and given permission. It's as though a Neanderthal grabbed the mic, and all of the half evolved types have suddenly been brought to the surface again. The pendulum will swing back, evolution will continue. I just hope it's in my lifetime.
