"Besides, We Give Gifts Throughout the Year!"
by Swan inthe jws always give a lengthly explanation as to why they don't celebrate christmas or birthdays, and then always add the final statement "besides, we give gifts throughout the year!".
yeah, right!
okay, lets get an unofficial count of all the people who actually did get gifts on other days of the year.

I never received gifts when I was a child. Deprived? YES!
Now, I like getting them.

How many have left the WTS and joined another church/group?
by BLISSISIGNORANCE inat this point in my life i don't think i could trust any religious group.
i don't even feel the need to be a part of anything like that right now, and maybe never will.. but i know of some who have joined other churches/groups since leaving the borg.. why do some join another religion and why won't some ever get involved again?.
what makes us so different?.

After 14 years, I started attending a church. An E-Free one.
I now go to a Baptist one.
Funny, I've yet to officially join one yet. I wonder why?
Hmmm....

What did you think about the Bible Tapes?
by Perry inwhen i was 19 i worked construction with my dad and he always played the bible tapes during the 45 min drive to and from work.
i didn't think much about it until a few years ago i listened to tapes of the bible from a company called "back to the bible" man, what a difference!.
the wtbs tapes used an extremely authoratative voice.... with almost pissed off over tones.

Gosh...After reliving the past while reading the itinerary, I don't know whether I should hurl or sit on my watch. I think I'll hurl on my watch.

Blocking out your JW past
by Nosferatu inafter i had left the jws, i worked on blocking out my past with them rather than dealing with the issues that were still lingering.
this continued for 6 years until i stumbled onto freeminds.org.
just wondering how many of you blocked out your jw past, and how long you did it for?
-
Jimmer
I did not intentionally block it out. It just "Happened."
I do have some memories, mostly brief moments or places; nothing really substantial. (I was a JW until age 18.)
I am now 42. Hmm... Maybe I still have some issues...!?

Memory - How it works
by Lady Lee inmany survivors have difficulty understanding the nature of memory, why we forget and what causes us to remember.
we often doubt what we remember or others doubt what we say.
we think we must be crazy to even have certain thoughtss.

Although I do not believe I was at all abused as a child, my life as a child JW is a near black hole in the space between my ears. I remember so little, it's as if I wasn't born until I graduated from High School (I left the JWs and my family at that time). Hmmm...

Home Schooling
by hippikon inwhat are your thoughts on home schooling?
we had a few in one congregation i was in that practiced home schooling for their kids.
i kina think home schooling is isolationists and for loons.

Let's not forget, most home schooled children are not JWs. Jws, unfortunately, have their own agenda w/ home schooling. Others have a variety of reasons; most of which, I dare say, revolve around their love for their children.
