Titus, how can anyone defeat me, I express my opinion, others express theirs. That does not constitute a defeat. Why do you not want me to run away?

Sola Scriptura
by dieselman inin response to yknot *** please note the wts doesn't believe in sola scriptura (bible understood alone by individuals), if you are 'lurker' and want to refute this fact, please start a new thread or feel free to pm me ...... (reproof will be accepted if you can show me my error of understanding on the matter).
in the words of the ethiopian "how can i," he said, "unless someone explains it to me?
" so he invited philip to come up and sit with him.

DD, I think you had better go back to the context of the discussion, it was based on the definition by yknot. I know full well what sola scriptura is and have made no attempt to pirate it. I am merely making application in the context.

PSacramento, your comment confirms that Philip "Helped" to understand the prophesy. Teaching is an assisting process where you assist a student in understanding a subject. To assist is to help. Thank you for confirming that Philip explained the scripture to the Ethiopian.
Teel, read my comment more carefully. I never made any suggestion that the GB is better than Ethiopian, but I do suggest that if a person thinks that if they can do better than the Ethiopian and instruct themselves without the assistance of anyone or anything, then they should go ahead. And who said that anyone said that the holy spirit is the exclusive domain of the GB, only those who wish to discredit them. Everyone qualifies to receive the power of God's holy spirit.

Titus, clearly you havnt made up your mind that you are Jehovah's Witness. If you don't agree with the WTS then why are you wasting your time, go find the truth according to your view. If however you do recognize the truth then make your mind over and be Jehovah's Witness. You yourself know that God see's all, and that includes your heart and mind. If you fear the GB then your faith is misplaced, it's God you should fear. So in your final analysis are you staying there to please God or the GB. If you have truly made a deep study of the bible then you should be able to solve the mystery yourself. Remember its God's Holy Spirit which makes it possible for us to understand the bible fully. That is another reason why I state that sola scriptura is used by the WT, because it is in fact then using God's Holy Spirit. The bible stands due to God's Holy Spirit.

I get the impression that people have a misconception of being Jehovah's Witness. Let me help you. If you dont agree with what Jehovah's Witnesses believe is the most correct understanding of God's Word, then don't be Jehovah's Witness. If you think you are better than the Ethiopian then go ahead and come to your own understanding.

Titus, in other words, a person is not obliged to be Jehovah's Witness. Everyone is free to choose their own course. A person is or becomes Jehovah's Witness after a careful study of THE BIBLE, and if anyone has a different opinion to that then it is my opinion that person has not made a careful study of the bible.

DD, my opening statement is quoting yknot. I am stating that they do subscribe to sola scriptura in the correct definition, but they do not subscribe to the definition according to yknot. In other words, the WTS believes what God's word says, that someone needs to help another person to understand his word. The Ethiopian in point. However, the WTS also believes that scripture explains scripture, and that m.o. is used repeatedly in their explanations of scripture.

Correction, the WTS provides a wide range of bible based information to assist persons in making a deep study of the bible. The person has to draw his own conclusion of the facts based on all information at his disposal. Every single person on this planet derives external input from sources other than their own bible by way of interchange of ideas such as on this forum. If a person does not like what the GB suggests is a useful explanation of scripture, they are welcome to exercise their God given free will of choice and reject it. And in the real sense, the WTS does subscribe to sola scriptura which can be clearly seen by their understandings of certain prophesies where scripture does explain scripture, but as shown earlier, also subscribes to the same policy as the Ethiopian.
