Another JW in the news
by TweetieBird inhttp://www.news-journalonline.com/breakingnews/2010/06/man-follows-wife-with-tracking-device-slashes-new-boyfriend.html.

"seething anger lurking just below the surface."
Wow I have noticed that too! Even in myself, since I became free, I feel at peace. When I speak to family still in, the anger and irritation at even small things is very noticeable.
"devaluation of the present life"
That is so true WTW. That bothers me so much about this religion. They make you fritter away the one life you know you have, make you pin your hopes on some fairy tale, it's a wonder more people don't go nuts.

Religion and Cults
by alice.in.wonderland ini've heard certain people here refer to jehovah's witnesses as a mind-control cult, high-control cult; theories perpetrated for how long i don't know, but at least since the days of ray franz.
i had spent nearly forty years as a full time representative, serving at every level of the organizational structure.
the last fifteen years i had spent at the international headquarters, and the final nine of those as a member of the worldwide governing body of jehovah's witnesses.

I'm not really sure what your argument is because you cut and pasted more than I care to read right now. I assume from other posts you've written that you disagree with classifying JWs as a cult. My basis for calling them a cult is by using Dr. Robert J Lifton's 8 criteria for thought reform. If you google him you can familiarize yourself with his work. I found that when honestly examining the points in his list, that the JWs are indeed a cult. Yes, it's an ugly word, usually has bad connotations, but the truth is the truth.

Witnesses "can't take the heat"
by Olin Moyles Ghost inhave you ever heard a witness say something like "why do apostates have to keep talking about the wts/jw faith?
why don't they just go on with their lives?
if they've found something better, why don't they just focus on that instead of us?

""O K , then what is your solution to the World's problems?"
One thing I've noticed about them is that they must always have an answer for everything. You will almost never hear a JW say "I don't know." On the rare occasion that the JW is at a loss for a wordy "explanation", he/she will tell you they'll look it up and get back, which of course they won't. Now when I get asked a variation on that question, or any of the "how did life begin" etc, I just state "I do not know." It's amazing how freeing it is to not feel like you have to have all the answers.
And as far as what my solution to the world's problems is, I like to tell people they need to start at home. Be a good person, help those in need where possible. Be kind. Teach your children to be good people. Really, what else can you do?

"Life is short and meetings are too darn long"
Amen to that. When I think of how much time I wasted in "theocratic activities" so sad.

Sometimes I think people who appear very meek and mild aren't really dealing with their emotions in healthy ways and then they manifest themselves in shocking violence. This seems to happen alot- JW violence. Is it because they are so stressed?

Conditional love
by wannabefree inyou can expect it from the congregation, but from a spouse?
there is just something very wrong with that.. .
-
serenitynow!
Well the problem is that they are trapped in a cult. We were trained to love jehovah first before all others. In JWs though jehovah=the org, so the allegiance is to the org first. It's sad, but that's how we were conditioned. I remember when all I wanted was a "brother" for a husband because he would love jehovah even more than he would love me. In my mind, the loving jehovah would mean he would live accord. to the scriptures and thus treat me well, but the reality is that JWs cannot differentiate god from his supposed "earthly organization."

The 144,000 Belief - What Will Happen To It?
by mentallyfree31 inwhat do you think will happen to the 144,000 belief as the years progress?
will the wts convert that to a "figurative" number and leave it open-ended?
or will they come up with another date and insist that anybody after that date should not partake?.

I don't even know what the teaching is now. How have they addressed the increasing number of partakers?
