As far as I'm concerned, the GB serves the same purpose as the Pope. They have made themselves mediators. JWs might as well be Catholic and praying to the saints, of course the saints you actually know things about. The GB could be anybody we don't know their history or anything, yet they go so far as to say that you can't have a relationship with god w/out them.

9/15/2010 WT- Our Active Leader Today
by serenitynow! inyes, another 9/15/ study article thread.
the more i read this stuff the worse it gets.
page 27, paragraph 9- "today, he likewise approves of those, young or old, who refrain from delving into the "deep things of satan" by means of the internet or violent video games or by indulging in permissive human reasonings.".

Oh thanks wannabfree. I didn't know what that thread was by just looking at the title.
But seriously, I am going to have to ask some JWs what "permissive human reasonings" means. Every article has something outrageous in it.
OTWO, has that phrase been used in the lit before? It's funny to me how they did not illustrate what they meant by that.

What in the world is that supposed to mean? Permissive human reasonings- a deep thing of Satan? I also picked up on the use of the word "indulging" to indicate that to reason (independent of the WT I presume) is somehow sinful.

I really wonder about Weeping. She hasn't posted in a long time. I'm worried, I suspect some kind of demonic foul play.

"Most people join/stick with a religion, a group, a marriage, whatever, because they positively enjoy belonging, not because "there's nowhere else to go.""
You just illustrated what happens in an abusive relationship. What I have both experienced firsthand and observed, is that first an abusive person damages his/her partner's self-esteem/self-worth. They let the person know that no one is going to love them, they are not worth it. So now your mind is all messed up to where you actually believe it. Don't forget, the WTBTS has done a pretty good job of making the R&F as dependent on them as infants. The thought of not having others calling the shots is scary to them.

Another GEM from the 9/15/10 WT
by civicsi00 inthis is taken word for word from the study article entitled: "unity identifies true worship", page 13, paragraph 8:.
"similarly today, a governing body composed of spirit-anointed christians contributes to the unity of the worldwide congregation.
the governing body publishes spiritually encouraging literature in many languages.

Civics I'm reading through the mag now, and that statement just threw me too! They really have placed themselves as mediators. So the chain of command now is JW-GB-Jesus-Jehovah. Wow. When did the GB start to figure so prominently in the lit? I've been out about 8 years, the tone of the mags has changed.

Some things you did as a JW that you look back at and laugh about
by gubberningbody ini remember that right after france did a job on the wtbs w/taxes on donations i used an email-harvester and spammed about 250,000 french email addresses with an advertisement for free bible studies and a link to the french site.. .
i remember getting some replies, like "you can't do that, that's illegal.
" and i said "i'm an american, and it's legal here.

"My father, at one time, was the TMS "servant" as they called it back then."
Mine too. But I actually liked giving talks. I enjoyed public speaking and wanted to make a living at it.

September 15th Watchtower is making me feel literally ill
by sd-7 in...i can't believe how loaded it is with all manner of arrogance, organizational chest-thumping/idolatry, and i still haven't gotten to the last article yet!
i know...i shouldn't be reading it.
i just...need to know what's going on so i can at least know what's going into my family's heads.

That's how I felt when I read the Nov 15th WT, physically ill. They can get away with printing that crap because the public doesn't see it. It is blatant mind control.

A Seattle Police Officer Is Caught On Tape Hitting a 17-year An African American Teenager Girl
by Scott77 inbased on this video shot from seattle, i think this 17-year african american teenage girl acted beyond normal expectation.
she is seen threatening or attempting to hit a law enforcement officer who was doing his duty.
the officer had to hit her face.

I think that the community leaders and the NAACP are doing this girl a great disservice by treating her as a victim. The reality is, she's had a rough life; she evidently does not have parents who love her and care enough for her to train her to not be a person who needs to be punched in the face by an officer.
Being a black person I will say we have a tendency to not want to air our problems out for outsiders (non-blacks) to see. In this instance however, they need to take a public stand on how her behaviour directly led to what happened, and that her future is dim if she continues on this path. They (community leaders) would do well to turn this into a "how do we keep our children from getting in trouble with the law" discussion. I could go on at length on that. One thing we have to do is stop trying to blame white people for everything. Prejudice and racism are responsible for some things that happen but not all.
