  I realized a positive outcome from my JW upbrining!

  i have been on this board for over 2 years.

  one thing that i have read over and over is to find something positive in my upbrining as a jw and i have been unable to do this.

  all i have seen is negative.

  Hi Belinda

  It seems to be really hit and miss whether you get into a congregation that welcomes and involves newbies or has cliques. I think there might be cultural differences too. I've only been to a few cong's across the pond and they were very friendly but equally straight laced - unable to cope with a sense of humour. In the UK I've seen some cong's that had cracking individuals who could have a real laugh as well as those who were very pc. I guess you go the crap kind at 10

  Quick question - I'm assuming your sister has also left - have you been a help to each other and has any more of your family left? Are you close with your sister as a result? Oh and did you manage to hook up with any people you used to know??

  Whats the most bizzare way a JW has ever tried to "encourage" you?

  in my case it was my best freind in the cong who decided to encourage me to answer up at the wt by... refusing to talk to me afterwards if i hadn't answered up!

  If you're feeling tired then you need to do more personal study and you'll feel fully refreshed. It's like going on service with a glass of water and letting each householder take a sip. If you don't go home and fill up the glass you'll run out of water.

  I fink best way for break up with boyfriend is tell him you are boy. He will be very very shock and want know why you keep this from him. He will not buy you more cheap present. He will be sick.

  scarredforlife - you predate me considerably but a belated welcome anyway!

  I'm sorry that you have had to search so long and hard for anything positive. Tells a big story in itself. I know that many on this site have experienced some terrible things as a JW and that probably includes your goodself.

  I think I've come off fairly lightly in comparison to others, losing time and potential talent to the truth but did get some positives. I learned how politics works in a small social sphere and how to deal with certain people types - this has helped me in the corporate world. I learned how important perception is - not what you do but how others perceive you to be doing. This again has been really useful in business. I also had some good times with people, almost because we were trapped in the framework of this dangerous belief system.

  I don't believe that recognising some positives in any way diminishes the negatives.

  Do you consider yourself to be quiet or outgoing?

  something someone said on one of the popularity topics got me to wondering who on the board is quiet and who are the outgoing ones in real life.

  i'm a quiet person in real life, takes me a while to warm up to folks that i just meet, but if i really like a person my rarely used gift of gab comes out.. how about ya'll?.

  ENFP although it all depends on the situation. I work with some quiet people so make a real effort to chatter and make the day interesting - often at my own expense. I've become quieter since being on JWN - more to think about with all these stories going round in my head.

  Hi!! New Here and need to express some feelings

  i'm so glad i happened to stumble across this website cause i really need to express what i've been holding inside for quite some time.

  i'm 27 and was born and raised in the "truth".

  i'm married and my husband was also raised as a jw, been married for almost 7 years and have two kids who have just started kindergarten and preschool.

  Hi knb,

  Thank you for putting writing some of what I feel.

  guilt trip. story of my teenage years as well. I cringe at how I was made to feel at school because the WTS and my parents wanted me to make a stand.

  I didn't celebrate a birthday until a few years ago when my work colleagues got me a cake and took me out to lunch by surprise - they had no idea it was my first and it felt really special. It may seem odd following celebrations but the kids will love it and what the kids enjoy so will you. You have created your own family and you're the boss (I'm sure the hubbie won't disagree ) so enjoy your freedom and don't feel like you need to please the JW's who've tried so hard to control you.

  The guilt / fear thing - it does go with some research and time.

  Could They Dump The Assemblies?

  my theory continues to be that the governing body will be forced to break down the organization piece by piece.. so, i wonder: could they dump the assemblies?.

  it is clear - that they are having some problems in this area.

  they are selling off assembly halls in some countries, they have moved some district assemblies to assembly halls (to save money on rent) and the pleas for donations from the platform have not let up.. while zombie witlesses may drag themselves to meetings and out in service (with whatever literature/magazines the watchtower manages to afford) indefinitely, i watch this area with interest.

  Oooh sir82 - there's new light for me - DC's are just a literature promotion event! That is inspired and makes so much sense - they hype the event for months, make you travel a long way, invest all that time and then the only souvenir you get are the new books (which you generously donate for).

  In the UK the assembly halls are self funding charities and break even from the donations they receive. Of course the WTS could choose to sell off these properties as they are worth tens of millions. Assembly halls in other countries may need subsidising so would be the first to go.

  I think it's unlikely because they serve so many purposes:

  1) They are events that the GB can turn up at and feel the power and prestige

  2) They make attendees feel like they are part of a large organisation

  3) Due to the amount of indoctrination hours this is a valuable tool for mind control

  4) Isn't it an important dynamic for the young? They need these opportunities to meet other young JW's so new family units can be built in the cult.

  5) They keep all the volunteers busy

  a former teacher and senior jehovahs witness who tried to abduct a young girl on a flintshire housing estate is back behind bars today.. .

  robert edward bill, 56, has been sentenced for an admitted an attempted abduction in holywell and breaching a sexual offences prevention order while out on bail.. .

  judge elgan edwards jailed him for 30 months and disqualified him from working with children.. .
