well done - great work! I also think how he referenced you in a negative way is him trying to justify his own path by shifting the blame.

by uk_ex_jw ina few months ago, i posted about a study who was getting baptised this summer at the upcoming dc.. we discussed a few things on fb.
i showed him evidence that the watchtower does not have the truth.
the last i heard was that he had gone to the elder's with the information i had given him.. i haven't heard from him since.. however, yesterday he contacted a jw, elder's son on fb.

This has probably been the single most thought provoking thread I've read in a long time. So many valid, perceptive views and personal experiences that get to some of the root causes.
Proposed new policy (draft) not really in Watchtower speak or with any legal background.
Letter to be read to every congregation and re-read on an annual basis. As this is new policy Elders should contact each member of the congregation who attends at least some meetings each year to ensure they are aware of this. A register must be signed by every member to say they have seen and understood the new policy.
1) Any cases of child abuse should be reported immediately and directly to the proper authorities (i.e. police or social services). This applies to new cases or any previously unreported cases.
2) Local elders may be informed if you have permission from the investigating authorities for practical reasons only such as arranging transportation to meetings.
3) Should any elder be informed of any child abuse where the proper authorities have not yet been advised such as during a confession, they should strongly recommend the proper authorities (i.e. police) are told immediately. The elder/s should also contact the police to ensure a report has been made and if not then file one.
4) Elders are not qualified to investigate claims of child abuse, provide judgement on claims, offer professional counselling, legal advice, financial advise, medical advise or dispense drugs to victims.
5) As part of an initial exercise to ensure the congregations are clean, any current members of the congregation will be asked to sign a disclosure that they have never been convicted of child abuse. As a precaution the child offenders register will be checked for all current members and thereafter any new members should be checked.
6) Anyone with a conviction for child abuse at any time in the past will not be allowed to serve in any position of responsibility or will be removed from a position of responsibility immediately. They will be asked to comply with a voluntary request to never attend meetings. Instead they can dial in using a conference call to listen to meetings and receive all the literature but just not associate in any way (either in person, via telephone or internet with any members) or undertake any form of preaching. If they exercise their rights of freedom and do attend, then an elder should sit on either side of the offender and they should remain with the offender at all times until they leave the premises.
7) Anyone being investigated for abuse will be asked not to attend meetings until the charges are dropped.
8) Anyone who has confessed to being guilty of child abuse but for some reason charges were dropped by the authorities (i.e. due to technicality or victims could not be located) should be treated as one convicted.
9) The offenders register will be checked regularly to ensure that no offenders live in the area. If they do then the congregation will be made aware of these so they can take measures not to call on them and be aware if they are approched by an offender in a nearby street. No minors should be allowed on the door-to door ministry without being accompanied at all times by a responsible adult.
10) The WBTS does not guarantee that the congregations will be free of child abuse but will work with the elders and local authorities to ensure any known offenders will be clearly watched at any meeting and the congregation will be made aware of any conviction with a simple announcement.
11) The WBTS apologies unreservedly to victims of abuse within the congragtions or where the offender was associated with the congregation as a result of our policies or actions by elders. Any shunning that has taken place as a result of this will be immediately removed and please contact us directly for compensation related to the abuse and possible shunning.
12) This policy and any updates will be printed in the magazines on an annual basis and available under heading "policies" on the website.

Candace Conti video on YouTube - let's send it viral!
by cedars ini've uploaded a video that discusses the dramatic jury verdict regarding the abuse suffered by candace conti, of which you are all aware.
if you're not yet familiar with the story for any reason, please check out my blog article on the link below.... http://jwsurvey.org/general-information/the-watchtower-punished-society-loses-legal-battle-over-child-abuse-case.
john hoyle suggested i get a youtube video out fairly quickly so that we can spread the message more effectively online.

every type of media you produce will help. Who know's how many JW's this will reach in weeks, months and years to come who are unhappy with the WBTS's broken policies. The music is a nice touch.
As the story unfolds in the coming weeks and Candace does TV interviews, is it possible to splice these in? I'm sure hearing her speak will add even more to it's power although I understand this may be technically challenging.
great job

My JW mum is in hospital
by nugget inmy poor mum fell over on sunday and broke her hip.
she was taken to hospital and yesterday had an operation to place a pin in the joint.
this was obviously a worrying time for all concerned and my dad let us all know what was going on.

Hope she gets some rest and peace and recovers well. Don't let this upset you too much. Maybe you might mention to your sister that she should be profoundly embarrassed about the Candace Conti story.

Can Satan enter your mind if you stop thinking?
by God_Delusion inas a kid, my brilliant pioneering mother told me that if i stopped thinking, satan and his demons could enter my mind.
am i the only one that was told this useless drivel?
is there a watchtower article that sort of backs this up?.

I heard it lots of times about meditation - if you empty your mind then the spirits will get in. I knew plenty of JW's who must have emptied their bowels and let the spirits in as I heard them talking out of their asses.

Have faded and now crossed another JW line. What should I expect ?
by av8orntexas inmy story, which i dodn't think i ever really told on here is i faded arounf 07-09. i went from an english congregation to a spanish one.. .
that was met by pretty strong opposition from my mother, who for a while tried to force me ( a grown man mind you ) to read the watchtower lesson with her when she would visit, the daily text over the phone when she called, or other asinine things that is expected of the rank and file.
especially men.. the few friends who do know i have fallen away.

You're a grown man - you need to set boundaries with your mum. You should have done this years ago but I understand the persistent thought-control mother type and it's never too late to get your space back. She is indulging in a pattern of behaviour encouraged by the JW's - "witness more and you will save him". That pattern of behaviour is destructive as you're finding it annoying, invasive and not answering all her calls.
Step one, you need to stop this bad pattern of her constantly preaching to you and invading your privacy and set boundaries. You can say you love her very much and appreciate she thinks she is trying to help you but this is unacceptable behaviour and you need some space. You do not want to discuss religion with her as there is nothing she can say that you have not already heard and that she needs to respect you are a grown man now.
Tell her that she is free to call a few times a week, in fact why don't you offer to call her and and instead talk about other topics that are neutral. It is important you try and make these calls positive and maybe plan some things to talk about. If she starts to talk religion and oversteps the mark then remind her you'd both agreed not to talk religion and change the subject or cut the conversation short very quickly. It may seem cruel or disrespectful but it will change her behaviour.
At the moment your mum is thinking I need to call him or he will die at Armaggeddon. Then when she hangs up the phone she is frustrated she hasn't saved you yet. It is a very negative cycle, it's not healthy and a terrible relationship to have with someone. So being firm is going to help you and it will help her too. She will still feel frustrated but you will start to have a positive relationship.
The reason why it is important you let her know where she stands now and change the dynamic of your contact is that if you get married it will become a big problem with your future wife when your mother keeps invading your privacy.
When you start to do all this she will know you mean business and start to respect the new boundaries - albeit with some kicking and screaming along the way. It will then mean she will also respect the boundaries of not talking religion with your future wife when you make it clear your wife also does not want to talk about it.
It means you future wife can build a reasonable relationship with your mother without futile debates on religion that will end in tears.
It sounds like you have found a wonderful woman, if you man-up now life will get easier. Clearly there will be future issues about the wedding and if there are kids but that is for another day. Congratulations, I with you every success.

I think the Candace Conti story has sunk without trace in the U.K
by Phizzy inas above, the dm site is not showing it unless you click the link on here or search for c.c no newspaer has reported it to my knowledge, the jw's are so insignificant that the public do not give a s**t in the opinion of journalists..

too true - no-one cares about JW's in the UK - they are just an odd bunch of people that waste your time. JW's think they're the centre of the universe doing a global ministry and in reality people are indifferent to them, not because of some prophecy, but because JW's are a leaflet distribution cult. They might get some recognition if they at least offered some cheap deals on pizza but sadly their ministry is far less responsive than my local takeaway.
The Candace Conti story is waiting for the next relevant UK JW story to hit the papers and then it will get wide coverage. This won't go away ever - it is now part of JW history - no way the morally corrupt governing body can re-write this history like they did with 1975 or the generation.
