Hello everyone! I could use some advice

most of the time i just lurk .

lots of times throughout the day.

however, something has come up that i would like some advice on, especially from members who were exiting the jw religion with young children.. .

We're unable to make life decisions like who we should marry until we're old enough. 6 years old isn't old enough to decide who we're going to spend the rest of our life with and neither should it be old enough to commit to a religion. You're his guide.

Be honest. Your son sounds a very mature and kind child. I'd tell him you've read a lot of things in the bible about Jesus warning us to be careful of false prophets. That the people in charge of JW's have been teaching some wrong things about Jesus and the bible. Ask your son if he thinks it's more important to do what God & Jesus want us to do in the bible or what some church leaders want us to do.

Clearly this approach will raise questions about his grandparents and why they believe it. Maybe let him know that they have believed it for so long they can't change their minds over things and that you need to be respectful of what they believe.

The toughest part will be to set boundaries for the granparents. Give then an inch and they will take a mile. I'm sure your son will be fine.

it seems like lots of people have big dreams of 'destroying the watchtower'.

it's usually linked to a story of how they were wronged and want some revenge.

do these 'in your face' attempts to convince people that the truth isn't the truth really have an effect?.

Update on fading

haven't posted anything here since my first post almost 5 months ago (you can read it here: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/experiences/255032/1/great-roi-successfully-fading#.uopjv-kdzyi), but i'm lurking around here almost on a daily basis.. short update:.

- all jw's on my part of the family are fully awake about ttatt and have fast-forwarded into 'fading mode'.

they are missing meetings, no longer go out in field service (but still send a fictious time slip at the end of the month), have missed the recent assembly.. - my father is now an ex-elder.

This really is an interesting update - many thanks. I'm not sure I've heard of quite such a mass fade for a long time. Your father stepping down will be a big deal to a lot of people. Any elder who is well like and appreciated (not the majority) will make a lot of people think - especially when people know why. Great to hear you're free - life is for living :-)

Emergency relief fund for the Philippines. How will it work.

i was just thinking it will be interesting to see how the wts emergency relief fund will operate in the philippines.

ok it worked well with the storm in florida, with cashing in on the insurance cheques.

sorry to generalize, but americans have the disposable income, and the insurance polices for things like this - a thing the wtbts finds very attractive.

SoPW - many thanks for providing evidence of local roof repairs.

You think that you can solve the problems in the Philippines by patching "a" roof and offering some "spiritiual comfort" to a few neighbours - seriously? ####@@@ seriously? This is evidence to you? Actually think about the scale of disaster relief required for the Philippines - turn on the TV and see the destruction - then pray to your God for forgiveness of your offensive ignorance.

Could a JW apologist please provide evidence of this? Please let us know which flights have been chartered to which airports with what skilled disaster teams and what equipment has been deployed? How are their efforts being integrated with other agencies to deliver aid to the areas most affected? What sustainable benefit will be achieved?

I am working with a team that have been deployed to Tacloban. They could have been dispatched early last week ahead of the typhoon but chose to wait until afterwards to ensure they got to the worst affected areas. They accessed this via flights with other aid agencies (many share logistics). It's a complicated model of relief with charities specialising in many types of aid (i.e. Oxfam in drinking water and sanitation). It's not about the speed at which they arrived its about the intergration of their services to the overall relief that is of value. To do this one must work with the charities who are experts at this... Red Cross / UN etc

Any help is good but please don't assume the WBTS is on the forefront of helping. No JW can take pride in their organisation for providing disaster relief - they are experts at token reporting not providing disaster relief.

so it's been seven months since i moved out of my parents place and in with my (now) fiance.

they came to our door this morning and it's been a long time since i spoke to my parents.

i was never disfellowshipped because i was never baptized but there is still online limited contact.

If you give them an inch they will take a mile. If you then do not go regularly they will be very offended. Would I be right in saying you cannot give them what they want which is regular meeting attendance? When they have that they will want regular publisher hours on ministry and then talks on the ministry school.

Do not give them an inch or any false hope. Do not go to the meeting. Explain to your fiance who clearly seems to mean well that a little commitment to this cult is not acceptable - it must be 100% or they will harass you until you do.

New! Borg instruct to report tract placements

there's a new letter coming up next week to be read instructing the publishers to begin reporting the number of tracts placed in the ministry, including copies of kingdom news 38, annual invitations, district handbills and other tracts.

lol.

see, the borg is allegue about numbers, and why on earth do they tell you to start counting placement in the middle of a campaing, like the one they are doing now witk kingdom news 38 and not before it started??.

This is significant strategic reporting move. These will be used to demostrate how large the JW readership is, as evidence of how successful and widespread their message is being proclaimed and in their annual reporting showing greater public benefit (although we know most tracts don't get read).

Tracts are much easier to place - one can even give them away without saying anything to someone busy whereas the emphasis on magazines was to only give them to deserving cases. So reducing cost and increasing their stats in one single move.

In a few years they will include a new section in their reporting of how many people they have reached by their table stand witnessing (one table in the high street for two hours with footfall of 10,000 people hour = 20,000 reached with the message... even though most will ignore them or be unaware or be indifferent).

Watchtower and Women's Rights

we are in the year 2014, women make up the majority of the jw population, yet are not given certain '''''''privileges''''''' simply because they don't have a penis.

no talks, no leadership roles or the hope of them...ever, no matter how educated, zealous, or well spoken you are.. with the world moving towards upholiding women's rights do you see this becoming an issue that the watchtower will have to 'adjust it's thinking' on soon?.

They attempt to placate with some patronising paragraphs in the WT every few years about large armies and how women need a head of the household.

As an ignorant young mini who knew basically nothing even i knew that plenty of sisters were smarter and more capable of holding a ministry group or a book study group than me. Being a brother felt like being part of the elite.

Women should be leaving in their droves rather than marrying JW men for their "spiritual qualities". Many of those men would struggle to get any partner let alone someone willing to commit to marriage.

It's a cloaked form of modern day slavery.
