One law, a dream...

What if there was a universal law, only One Law?
The law would be that each mother and father must be loving toward their children. No abuse of any kind. Absolutely no physical harm allowed. No demeaning remarks, name-calling, yelling. No neglect either.
If a generation of children was raised on love, acceptance, kindness....wouldn't this change things drastically?
When someone harms themselves or another, or simply feels overcome by sadness or anger....and the person gets professional help, counseling...what does the psychologist began asking about? Childhood, at some point? That's where it all began.
Earth is a planet of bleeding hearts, it seems sometimes.
What if the babies were shown tenderness and told they were beautiful and capable? These babies would grow up loving themselves and feeling beautiful and spreading that to others...and there would be healing.
Idealist, yes. Dreamer, yes. So it is...
ps~ And there would be no need to make up stories about some big daddy in the sky that punishes and/or kills us, or watch while the innocent are tormented. Stories of a reflection of mankind's own atrocities. Stories born of the pains in man's minds.

Life is strange, isn't it? Sorry you are in such a harsh season of your life. It sounds like you are doing the best you can in your power. Remember to take a little time for yourself, to rejuvenate...breathe...

How do apocolytpic cults start?
by EntirelyPossible ini was doing some reading on jonestown recently, which led me to some reading on the branch davidians and the heaven's gate folks.. it seems to me (and this is the part i want to discuss) doomsday or apocolyptic cults all share some common characteristics:.
- secret knowledge of am impending disaster.
- their survival if they follow the messages from a higher source that their leader receives.

That is a good question.
At it's most basic, it would seem supply and demand. There is a market for people to feel a sense of belonging and find answers from someone/something that they percieve to be larger than themselves (also the desire to feel special), especially if approached at a particularly vulnerable time. Couple this with the ego-driven dilusional characters that desire to control others and have them be dependant upon them. And then the two feed off of each other and it snowballs?...
Also cults could act like an adoptive family, satisfying (in a highly-dysfunctional and abusive way) the need for 'devotion' and a way to 'make sense' of the the world, among other things...

Are you now ashamed of how gullible you were as a JW?
by biometrics innow that you realise how idiotic some of the jw beliefs are/were, do you feel ashamed of how gullible you were to believe them?.
if anything my past as an adult jw makes me understand how easily manipulated people are by the people and environment around them.
and that even intelligent people can be influenced beyond what is rational..

No~ I completely agree with your second paragraph, and feel that I'm in good company with many that have left....including those that have left other cults

'Carefully examining the scriptures' is not equivalent to being spoon-fed....sorry Charlie
And what would a good daily text be without a heaping helping of guilt...thanks for trying to make people feel unappreciative of the spiritual 'mush' if they don't acknowledge the hard labor and long hours of sacrifice the elders give in preparing this goo (no offense to the sincere elders, it's not their fault they are equiped with poison disguised as milk and honey)
