  my (non-jw) grandmother is visiting from the southwest this week.

  the usual family get-togethers are planned.

  my ms younger brother was complaining to me about how unreasonable our (jw) mother is being.

  Like many JWs, he has a blind spot where his religion is concerned, and just can't see how unbalanced and unnatural his viewpoint is.

  Thanks for reminding me of this Hmmm.

  Sometimes I get the same way with my family, but then I remember that I was just as dumb and frankly even more die-hard when I was a witness.

  It's a difficult balance, becuase I do want to hold them responsible for their own actions, but at the same time, i find it hard to hold it against them as long as they are being blinded by the WT. It's just a tough spot to be in and you have my sympathies.

  just arrived back in penryn at 1615hrs.

  got stuck in the middle of nowhere a few times hitch hiking on the way back home.

  early this morning i noticed a couple of racoons in my back yard searching for food.

  there's a huge park/forest in my back yard.

  i quietly opened the door and left some treats for them.

  amway, quixtar, and other mult-level marketing schemes vs. wts.. if there is anything an ex-jw cult member would recognize, it would be another cult!

  i say that b/c my uncle is an 'hardcore' quixstar member (ibo) and the more i talk to him the more similarities i see btw quixtar and the borg.

  of course he doesn't see quixtar being cult-like but to some one on the outside looking in the organizations mirror each other.

  My parents and several of their friends (all hardcore witnesses) have recently gotten involved with a MultiLevel Marketing company called PrePaid Legal. It's gotten quite big down here in Texas. I'm curious to see how it works for them.

  6 months ago I talked to an Elder who was doing it -- quite sucessfully -- and his remark to me was interesting: "If you can sell the Watchtower to people, you can sell anything!" And that from an Elder no less!!

  i just want to thank englishman for laying on this weekends events (and to trucker for putting us up).

  i also want to say what an amazing experience meeting up with other board members for the first time was.. if any of you others get the chance to meet up in the future, i highly recommend it as an unforgettable experience.. no doubt there will be countless pictures coming over the next few days!!

  Are we talking books we've bought, or books we've actually read?! Because my eyes are bigger than my appetite when it comes to books.

  While an active witness, I remember constantly buying books thinking I'd have time to read them, then getting caught up in all my 'spiritual obligations' and never getting around to them.

  I'd say I owned around 500 books all told. Maybe read half of them.

  The "crackpots" referred to in the concurring opinion of Scalia and Thomas are those the majority of the Court referred to in its opinion as "patriotic citizens who have such firm convictions about their constitutional right to engage in uninhibited debate in the context of door-to-door advocacy, that they would prefer silence to speech licensed by a petty official." Clearly, this cannot describe Jehovah's Witnesses. "Patriotic" is an adjective that has no applicability whatsoever to Jehovah's Witnesses, and it is unlikely the upholding of the Stratton ordinance would silence the affected Jehovah's Witnesses.

  But whatever your opinion on who Scalia was refering to, I think we can all agree JW's are crackpots!

  personally, i'm of the faithless (i'm close to being an athiest) and indiscreet (no explanation needed) class.. are you of the enviable smurf apostate class?

  or perhaps even the haunted second-hand furniture apostate class?

  I'm of the "now I know why I'm so screwed-up" class.

  And you know what GI Joe says: knowing is half the battle (At least, I think that's what he says... I haven't seen the cartoon since I was 10 and used to sneak away to a friends house!).

  there was a middle-aged woman in our kingdom hall who was a long time pioneer.

  she was a very warm and loving woman and so when she announced her plans for a family vacation one year some of us got together and took up a little collection so that she would have some extra money to spend.

  after all, she was working hard for jehovah and werent we supposed to show our appreciation?.

  the guestmap is a feature at the dnc site but i thought it might be cool to for us to get a visual image of where we all are.

  just 'click & hold' the map to drag it around.

  you can then zoom in on your local area.
