being raised in the jehovah's witnesses for 44 years ( exited 7 years ago ) - i observed many different variables that made each witness tick or operate.
but one of the most common variables was witnesses wanting to excel in progressing to positions becoming elders, ministerial servants, or pioneers because then and only then would they be looked at as allegedly " spiritual " or closer to jehovah.
but i learned as years went by that having a " position " in the congregation didn't make a person anymore " spiritual " or closer to god than witnesses who were not in appointed positions.. myself- having been appointed a ministerial servant at the tender baby age of 20 yrs.
My ex was desperate for 'position' in the congregation ....it was all he thought about...I used to say to him 'it really isnt what's important ...its your heart that matters' but he thought I was stupid...he eventually became a MS but then when he wasnt appointed as an elder after a few years he forced us to move house to go to another cong where he expected to be appointed ...it didnt happen thankfully...however during this time I really did see not only how much it mattered to the men or the majority in there to be a 'something' in the org but also what damage the appointments did to apparently good kind men ....not good, any of it...

i am going to meet attractive lady that is from morocco on july 3rd.
she teaches the language of french for living.
i do not know anything about morocco culture or anything like that.
I've been Asilentone a few years ago when on a Canaries Cruise we stopped off there for a couple of days...we took a trip out into the rural areas and not so popular places and it was very very dirty and poor...a lot of begging...children playing on rubbish dumps...sad. I didnt like it personally, sorry.

Without the internet and forums for exJWs especially this one and the people on it I think I would still be in distress following the Disfellowshipping which left me stunned and bereft. Fortunately my views and realisation that the Org wasnt what I thought it was have been validated online and the info it referred me to.

ok... i am out org.
have 2 children.
i have a brother in law who is an uber elder and follows every rule and regulation to the letter.
Because of my current perspective in which I have lost all 5 of my adult children to the Org...I wouldnt allow mine anywhere near anyone in it, if I could go back in time....however you have to decide if you want family association for your children and if you do ...what limits do you want on it...and if you do perhaps a calm quiet word with the MIL explaining your reasoning might just sort it ????

Edited to say....And dont allow anyone to take away or modify your parental rights...they're yours. x
ok, so we received our new copy of crisis of conscience (since my previous copy was lent out and never returned) and me and the wifey have been reading it together for the past couple nights.
i have read the book before, and know the shock felt when you read about certain things in the organization.
she admits to having lingering thoughts and feelings of guilt for leaving perhaps the only true religion.
Thank you for sharing this...I'm glad your wife has you to talk to...I read this recently...3+ years after leaving the Org and the feelings you describe were mine too...but afterwards it produces a 'freedom'...go on and read his 2nd book next ...I'm half way through it ...more shocks more distress but ...more freedom. Tell your wife I'm sending her a hug.
