Faith... and Trust: The Same Things?
by AGuest inin a discussion with some other dear ones, the question was asked as to what such ones put their faith in.
in response to one comment that"one can't function without faith," another disagreed, stating ones can, that "many do so every day... the ones who have trust" (in things like the sun rising in the east versus the west).
that trust extended to "faith" based "on nature and the natural order of things.

There were no insults Cofty. There were questions and suggestion of the answers. I am sure you are not so hypersensitive, I believe you are making excuses to absolve your rude behaviour. But whatever, now I've derailed, which wasnt my intention. And no, I'm not always nice, honestly. Sometimes I am so pi**ed off at people and if there's one thing that winds me up its unfairness and rudeness when there is no need.
There are people in Gaza being blasted to bits as we write, kids dying of starvation, and so on. In the face is such horrors do we need to rip into one another on a forum that's been set up to help us ALL to recover from an evil cult? No, we don't. We could be offering a united front for ones trying to escape, for ones battling to recover. We could be, if we all wanted to.

I brought it here Cofty, before you answered actually, and because its relevant here. On here it's been suggested that we don't step in if ones on 'our side of the atheist/believer fence' step in when one of ours is out of order, despite our shared beliefs. I even offered to police myself in that way. I just hope some on your 'side' will take this on board, that while sharing on here towards a truce, you were off doing exactly what you have just heard causes so much of the discord on the forum.

It was most definitely insulting. You were harking back to issues on a thread which has been deleted because of the bullying on it for a start. You were using sarcasm and satire in an insulting way to aggravate. You have manged to elucidate your motives clearly enough to me here, so why couldn't you have addressed Shelby the same way. It's easy stuff, watch:
" Shelby you've asked me about my Christian fellowship in what I feel to be a derogatory style. I would prefer that you didn't make assumptions about that fellowship. Your tone suggests a dismissal of them which I really don't find acceptable. I invite your responses."
See? For someone with your intelligence and intellect there is no excuse. It is just so sad to watch this repeating over and over again. As I've posted elsewhere, if you find Shelby's style or content unpalatable, and you don't choose to ignore her threads, it doesn't give you licence to be rude and insulting.

I agree Tal, I just followed a thread where it seemed things were being debated fairly and evenly enough and then Cofty posted this:
" Of course nobody has met a real christian until they encounter Shelby the humble slave and servant whose feet is washed by Seraphs."
This is quite obviously not the way to respect one another and if Shelby reacts, the whole atheist community will be outraged at her, yet again. Fair? No, it just isn't.

It really makes me despair that while some comment in this thread towards a truce, they at the same time go and make provocative and sarcastic comments on another. Or are we actually saying that if its AGuest's thread it's ok to be insulting. It isn't. It isn't fair at all. Shelby's style or content might not be palatable to everyone but that shouldn't be a licence to be offensive. Just sayin.

Cofty, why instead of pursing a line of questioning and an interchange of thinking, why, after contributing to a thread about a truce, would you post this:
" Of course nobody has met a real christian until they encounter Shelby the humble slave and servant whose feet is washed by Seraphs."
I do hope your fellow atheists are going to step in and mention that you're provoking and not even trying to stay fair?

What's wrong with simply respecting the poster but agreeing to disagree with their beliefs/nonbeliefs? In terms of concrete ways, ok, some believers have very different ideas/thoughts to my own, many I disagree with, but I don't challenge their person. I try to Granth them respect to choose their own beliefs without insult to their mental state, identity, intelligence. I think many of us believers realise that our experiences aren't acceptable as facts to everyone but it doesn't negate them for us. We are all equally entitled to voice what we think or feel without scientific proof arent we? For me the difficulties start when there are insults or name calling to undermine the poster as opposed to the post?

I like that PSac. Often spiritual experiences are personal, as has been said, not provable to anyone else, they don't hold up to scrutiny per se, that doesn't make them any less valid though. This sometimes is the issue that creates the discord. But if we all respect each others feelings then we have the basis for understanding.
