I still am a WT elder... EE
That counts for so very little here, thankfully.

in a discussion with some other dear ones, the question was asked as to what such ones put their faith in.
in response to one comment that"one can't function without faith," another disagreed, stating ones can, that "many do so every day... the ones who have trust" (in things like the sun rising in the east versus the west).
that trust extended to "faith" based "on nature and the natural order of things.

The desperation to bring AGuest down, by any means, just beggars belief. She reacts to personal insults, on her own thread, the one insulting gets warned ......and out come the attackers. So predictable every time. If it wasnt so pathetic it would be laughable.

i do not wish to debate anything here like i have said in the past i have much respect for most on this forum (believers and non believers) i am simply wondering if the atheist or non god believers every worry about what if your wrong?
it seems that many who were jw for so many years attach jehovah/yahweh with the watchtower and since the wt is wrong than god does not exist.
i ask this question only because i care about people and salvation thats why i want to help as many as possable come out of this cult, and since i truly believe in god i dont know what is in the cinscience of those who dont.
. Do you know how arrogant that sounds?
Arrogance suggests an exaggerated view of his own importance the whereas OP genuinely simply CARES about people. Fortunately the responsibility isn't his, this is why he hasn't been given all authority, it's too big for any human. The JWs bred the 'blood guilt' idea into so many of us which left us feeling responsible.

Yea but we know that the corrupt WTBS .has no authority to make such judgements, don't we? They just keep people ensnared by fear and legalistic burdens, and we know what Jesus thought about that sort of system.

As a believer, the thing I respect about non believers as you refer to them Unstoppableravens, is their honesty. They don't pretend to worship a god, they don't impersonate believers when it's suits them. Here in the UK when the circumstances require it, out come a bunch of people who attend the C of E special services/traditions etc so as to look very moral and middle class in our society. It really is so hypocritical. The same people, in their everyday lives freely admit to not believing really, but they put on a 'show' for some sort of social acceptance. It's not for fear of losing family etc, its simply for image. I find that pretty despicable. Give the the atheist any day, who has the courage of their convictions, and is prepared to stand up for them, and doesn't pretend at all.
My opinion, for what it's worth, is that any loving god would far prefer to deal with a decent person who is honest about their opinions and feelings than a hypocrite. The damage that religion has done throughout history is responsible for turning so many away from a creator. I believe that at the end of the day this will be taken into consideration. And anyway, as a believer, there is no guarantee that I or any other believer is getting it so right, is there?

Edit to say I should say that Cof E aren't the only ones guilty of this by any means, perhaps they're just more visible.
ricky gervais tweeted this 11/14/12 and i totally agree with it:.
"there are good atheists and bad atheists.
there are good believers and bad believers.. no god has ever changed that.".
Sab, sometimes I just love it when you climb up on your horse and come charging in. Impressive.

hi guys, i am known to some on here and to prevent further problems from the trolls that may identify my son from what i am disclosing i have a different name.
so, my 26 year old son gets the diagnosis ocular melanoma back on june 14th this year with a very bleak outlook.
i walked away from the cult some years ago, however my son stayed in as he was engaged to an uber witness girl.
Dear me, it beggars belief how his inlaws can be so unkind, doesn't it? I'm glad he's ok and I do hope you and your wife get some contact with him.

actually, this is my second post as i replied to a thread a few moments ago, but it turns out i originally registered eight years ago but had never posted.. i left in 2000 (from a newport, s wales, congregation) having been brought up in it from about the age of three.
initially, i was obsessed with research and posting to forums but got over it after a few years and just rediscovered this site a couple of days ago.
i just thought it would be worth posting my account of leaving in case it helped others.. i always considered myself to be "strong in the truth" and genuinely believed it,, but i suppose the amount of suppressed doubts had been mounting up and i think it was the summer of 1999 when i first thought of leaving.
Ah, apologies, my bad, I got my Newtown and my Newport mixed up!

Pajaha - Welcome back, I would have shared the Circuit Assembly in Manchester with you for quite a few years probably and perhaps even know your family. I was also involved in the RBC in your area but as a lowly 'sister'. PM me if you want to. Well done for getting your family out.
