how does it compare to the jws?
in the matter of baptism, this is what i dont seem to quite understand.
in the jws, you have to go through a rigorous trial period before getting baptized.

By the way…I don’t want to be misread. I’m bringing this up in an amicable way.
These are the kind of things that have been in my mind for the past few days, and since I can’t talk about these things anywhere else but here, I’m bringing them up just to see what you guys have to say.

In the matter of baptism, this is what I don’t seem to quite understand. In the JW’s, you have to go through a rigorous trial period before getting baptized. Some (not all) of their requirements to deem you “worthy” of their baptism have biblical support (i.e. accepting Christ as your savior, repenting from your sins, witnessing to others, not smoking, etc), even at the moment of baptism, they do say that it’s in the name of the Father, the Son, and the holy spirit…then as an added bonus, yes, is it is in the name of them (Father, Son, HS) but for (and plus) the WT organization.
If I simply reject the WT version of Christianity because I was “duped”, and join a Calvinistic Baptist church…based on the theory of Predestination, should I not be seen a Christian? Why should my status be as an unconverted, all because I’m from a pseudo-Christian denomination?
….Would any Baptist take a shot at answering question?
and...i wonder if other christian denominations see ex-jw as christians simply switching denomination.
do they validate the jw baptism... in another word, for example, will the baptists re-baptize an ex-jw who wants to join their church?

thought perhaps some newer members who haven't heard some of hassan's thoughts on mind control might relate to this from their own experiences in jehovah's witnesses .
even though mind control is initiated by the cult involved in controlling it's members - hassan points out - it actually becomes a psychological disorder which can entrap the victim himself or herself - all the while - as they are being controlled by the leaders of cults.. on page 55 of hassan's book " releasing the bonds - empowering people to think for themselves " it states what happens in a destructive cult , " in a destructive cult, the locus of control shifts to the group or it's leader .
the new recruit abdicates his ability to make decisions.

I’ve been considering all the available options. As I mentioned on another post, I think that I’ll pull a nice fadeeeee. I don’t have any significant family member in the JW other than my wife’s, no significant business dealings with JWs (minor stuff), and really…only a handful of JW that I can call REAL friends, the rest…I care for them to the same degree that they care for me (if you know what I mean).
I do feel that the WT and its elders have NO authority over me. NONE, NADA DE NADA. However, I was wondering if I would feel as if I have to settle a score with the b-organization eventually. Some of your responses gave me some confidence that I might be able to just forget all about the WT and its cronies.

sadly some of them had been in bethel for 5 - 10 years and were still cleaning toilets.. after about 2 years of it i couldn't do it anymore.
i always knew something wasn't quite right with this organization.

ive been missing meetings and curtailing my fs activities, even avoiding many of my jw friends by declining invitations to do non-theocratic activities with them (reverse shunning...take that jws!!!
), and unless i decide to da (or get dfd) a complete fade will be very hard to achieve (mainly because of my loved ones), but im learning to master the art of what i like to call the: less committed witness (or 1st degree fader).
i have submerged myself into the study of the gospel (using non-jw material) and the history of the christian church.

In my case, I feel that switching from feeling oppressed by the governing body and looking at them as a powerful slave master, to feeling pity for their need to posture an authority that they don’t have and seeing them as a bunch of stooges, has been instrumental to gaining control of my emotions.
They can’t control what’s in my heart and mind, they can’t come to my house and see what I read and take away my books. They can’t control my prayers…they can’t even control what I say on these forums.
Once you see them as what they are…nothing more than a bunch of apostolistic posers that depend on YOUR money, time, and attendance for their food, shelter and self-worth…you realize that the one who really have POWER and CONTROL is YOU. Once you regain that power… you say outlaud in your head ”king kong ain’t got sh*!+ on ME!”
